    Algae Growth And Plants

Many great things to consider but still doesn't answer my original concern... how would I go about getting it off my plants if i have it under control? Right now they just look dirty. Will it eventually go away by itself or should I get some new plants?

no, just a tube-like bulb... incandescent lights

OK, the lights are the long bulbs... 3 - 4 inches in length. they are 15watt.

    Algae Growth And Plants

No clue as to the wattage of the bulbs or what you mean by linear. They came with the hood when I got it over a year ago. I do probably need to limit the time that I leave the lights on during the day. Sometimes it's 12+ hours... The aquarium is not in direct sunlight. Algae treaments I've...

    Algae Growth And Plants

I've recently had an outbreak of algae in my tank. I've been able to combat it by frequent water changes and it is mostly gone now. However it has begun to grow on my plants and I'm wondering how I could go about removing it from them? Can't exactly scrub them with the tank scraper...

    Missing Platy

I had one that went missing and never found it. It was there alive one day and gone the next. Figured it jumped out and the cats got it. Unless snails can eat one overnight!

    Water Change = Dead Fish

The only place close to me with any fish stuff is Wal Mart. Don't have easy access to a 'real' pet store. On that note however, we are going somewhere today where there are several shops and I am going to check into better water testing methods.

    Decorate Or Not?

I would say decorate... that's a lot of tank to have nothing but fish in it. maybe not too heavily but it would be more interesting to look at with some decor in it.

    Water Change = Dead Fish

It was 50% or more since I haven't done much to the tank over the holiday season. I know, that's a bit much but have done it before and had no problems like this. Was looking yucky and the fish were not looking good. All water test levels were good a few days ago as well as today. Not a big...

    Water Change = Dead Fish

Just did a water change and cleaning of the tank. The two platies I had have been looking poorly so I figured I needed to freshen up their home. Unfortunatley both have died within the 2 hours since this was all done. I added Tetra Safe stuff to the water before filling the tank. Didn't do...

    10 Gallons And 5 Platies...

Is my tank full or can I add a couple more fish for variety? I'd like to add a little more color to my tank as all the Platies are orange with a black accent here or there. There are also a few snails in the tank as well but will be thinning down the snail population soon. Would also consider...

    Snails!

I've heard of the vegetable trick before. Think I'll try that soon. Will also be a little more diligent about keeping the gravel more thoroughly vacuum and cleaned up. They don't really bother me that much but I don't want my tank overrun by these things. Just want to keep them under...

    Snails!

I seem to have a population of little snails - most have the corkscrew type shell on them. They are tiny and as small as a piece of gravel. I know that having a couple of snails can be a good thing as they are always eating algae and other bits of leftover food and debris. 1 - Are these a...

    10 Gallons And 3 Platies...

I had thought about these but was worried about the gravel. Thanks for the info! Now I'll just have to find a LFS with them in stock and hopefully not too costly. Do these guys need any special diet or would fallen food be enough?

    10 Gallons And 3 Platies...

I have thought about these fish but I have a gravel substrate. I've read that's not good for their whiskers. or am I thinking of another fish type?

    10 Gallons And 3 Platies...

As the title says I have a 10 gallon tank with 3 platies. Would like to get a couple more fish. Any suggestions? I know I can't add too many but do want a little more variety in there. I have tried ghost shrimp but that hasn't turned out well...

    Airstones - Needed Or Not?

OK, so it's good to have one. Would the smaller cylinder type be sufficient or should I continue with the 4 inch strip in my 10 gallon tank? Could be 5 or 6 inches, not sure.

    Airstones - Needed Or Not?

Are airstones needed or can an aquarium environment do well enough without one? I have a 10 gallon aquarium with 1 approx 4 inch airstone. Would a smaller one work just as well in my tank? It is taking up space that I would like to use for more plants or decorations.

    Platies And Neon Tetras?

Hi and thanks for the reply. The tank is about three weeks old. Some friends got us a boxed kit with a tank, filter, pump and other bits and pieces to set up for my daughter. We set it up and rushed a bit to put fish in it. We lost one within a couple of days but the remaining seem to be doing...

    Platies And Neon Tetras?

I have recently started the hobby with a 10 gallon tank. I have 2 platies and 2 ghost shrimp. Would these get along with Neon Tetras? Would I have enough room for 5 of them added to the rest? I like them because they would add more color to the tank and are a peaceful fish like the rest. Any...
