Thank you all for the great comments... well, this Leleupi is loosing this fight for territory. He is starting to realize that he is no match for the Boulengeri. That Boulengeri has a big enough mouth to fit the head of the Leleupi in.

To drain I ran some plumbing in my basement that comes tru the floor into the base cabinet of my built in stand. This drains directly into the laundry sink. When cleaning my tank (all on first floor) I just connect my hose to the connection in the cabinet and siphon the water from the tanks...

I think assumptions can be an enemy of everyone, we all make the mistake... If I remember correctly, there are also some Malawi (not mbuna) cichlids that do better on a high protien diet. Since I prefer Tanganyikan, I am not to sure though.

many people say that the crushed coral will have a better effect on the water if placed in a media bag inside a filter. as for me, I have some in my tank and in my filter, I also use base rock (used in SW tanks) to buffer my ph and kh limestone would work wonders also...

Does any one here know the exact dimensions of a 40 gallon breeder tank including the trim? The standard 36x18x16 does not include the trim, I am assuming that the trim adds 1/2" overall to the tank dimension but I need to know for sure.

well in a 4' 55 gallon tank you have alot of options. it really depends on which african lake that you want to go with. The two most popular are Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganyika I am a Lake Tanganyika fan so if it were my tank I would probably go with: - a group of Lamprologus Ocellatus...

You could easily keep tank raised african cichlids in that water you have. what is the dimensions of that tank? it does make a difference.
