I followed the TwoTankAdmin post to fishless cycle.  It went brilliantly.  Took 23 days.  I used ammonia that the UK guys can buy from "The Range" for £1 a bottle.  Only needed to use a fifth of a bottle for the complete process.   Thankyou for that excellent guide!!!!!

  What is the GH of your source water?  This is actually more important than pH, and some of the fish mentioned here have specific needs.  Mollies for instance will not last long in soft water, whereas tetras are better in soft water.  You can ascertain the GH from your municipal water suplly...

I have about ten tetras and a couple of clown loaches in an older tank that I am getting rid off after transferring the fish.  I'll move them into the new tank first.  Will I then be able to fully stock after a week or so of transferring the existing fish?  Will a small number of fish like that...

Anyone still looking at this thread in the UK the Ammonia from the range is still available and works very well.  Costs £1 for a bottle of it.

Hi all, I am a week into my fishless cycle of my new 80G tank. The guide mentions that the tank can be fully stocked to its capacity after the cycle completes. Has anyone done that?  IF I *don't* fully stock then are "snack" ammonia doses required in the absence of the full bio load?   Thanks, Steve
