    Fishless Cycle Went Brillianty

I followed the TwoTankAdmin post to fishless cycle.  It went brilliantly.  Took 23 days.  I used ammonia that the UK guys can buy from "The Range" for £1 a bottle.  Only needed to use a fifth of a bottle for the complete process.   Thankyou for that excellent guide!!!!!

Cleaning The Sand With Siphon Hose?

Just changed to sand in my new aquarium.  Quick question on cleaning it?  With gravel that i used before the pieces are generally big enough not to get siphoned up the pipe when cleaning with a siphon hose.  However, with sand a lot of it gets sucked up and out into the cleaning bucket.  Anyone...

    Ro Water

Thanks Byron/Goldfinger, So even though my water company states that my water is "slightly hard" and gives me a reading of 8.32 dGH, by tropical fish keeping standards you are saying that this number is actually quite soft and I should stay with soft water species? Thanks for your input! This...

    Ro Water

Hi all, I thought I'd start a new thread on this as it was getting tangled up with my Algae thread.   I have filled my new 90G tank (currently in fishless cycling) with RO water more out of the fact that I have always been doing this with my 20G.  However, with my much bigger tank this could get...

Tank Lights Question Regarding Blue Moon Light ?

Hi all, Another question from me.  Thick and fast questioning at the moment, I should have been an attorney perhaps ;-)  !   After setup up my new tank I have installed my main lights (triple strip LED - very nice and bright) but also I have installed a "blue moon" LED strip that I was thinking...

Fish For My 90G Tank And Some Questions?

What is the GH of your source water?  This is actually more important than pH, and some of the fish mentioned here have specific needs.  Mollies for instance will not last long in soft water, whereas tetras are better in soft water.  You can ascertain the GH from your municipal water suplly...

Algae Eating Bottom Dwellers Like Plecs?

Hello all and many thanks for the replies.   It is not really algae as such, just greenness that develops over the rocks and glass.  It's easy enough to clean the glass but rocks are an issue to keep taking out.  This develops over a period of about a week and starts to look very unsightly. I of...

Algae Eating Bottom Dwellers Like Plecs?

Hi, I want to get some fish - freshwater -  that will eat most (not all obviously, that would not be possible) of the green algae that grows on the rocks etc.  My tank is four feet long and 90 gallons or so.   I hear plecs get too big and I don't want that (I do like them though).  What about...

Full Stock After Fishless Cycle ?

I have about ten tetras and a couple of clown loaches in an older tank that I am getting rid off after transferring the fish.  I'll move them into the new tank first.  Will I then be able to fully stock after a week or so of transferring the existing fish?  Will a small number of fish like that...

Full Stock After Fishless Cycle ?

Hi all, I am a week into my fishless cycle of my new 80G tank. The guide mentions that the tank can be fully stocked to its capacity after the cycle completes. Has anyone done that?  IF I *don't* fully stock then are "snack" ammonia doses required in the absence of the full bio load?   Thanks, Steve

Tank Has Been Wiped Out Almost... :(

Hello guys, thanks for these valuable insights!! I reckon the issue is the ammonia spike, as these posts seem to be alluding too. Oh dear, in my ignorance I wiped out my poor fish.... All levels are fine now though. Would an amoonia spike, that occurred a week ago have shocked the fish...

Tank Has Been Wiped Out Almost... :(

Hello Guys, My first post so hello from me. I am desperate for some advice. My 240 litre tank with Fluval 305 filter has been up and running for three months. I was slowly stocking it over that time and had about 40 fish in total. Everything was cool -all levels seemed OK. I then cleaned...
