are you sure its nitrite and not nitrate that you've tested for? I cant see any fish surviving 40ppm nitrite

I don't know how i can be sure that all snails are gone from the aquarium. There are millions of places for them to hide :(

they look more brown to me on the esterae, but on the dems, they could look black. They are also more like "patches" rather than spots on some of the fish now

The fish seem perfectly comfotable, no flicking. There ARE some small snails in the tank, they came in with some java moss i bought.

yer, thats what im worried about. I dont mind spending for a second external filter if necessary, but i know you would need significant filtration for a tank this size and im not sure if the internal filters in its lid are up to the job :)
