ah never mind. she is delivering right now. There are about 20+ fry in the tank. I have separated all males in a breeding trap. She is all by herself in the tank. How long lose the delivery last? I will have to set all males free and move all fry to the breeding net.

I have added more vals and floating plants to my tank for the fry to hide in. I know the mother will try to eat the fry, but what about other 3 males in the tank? will they hunt for and eat the fry as well?

I am seeing my otherwise very active guppy just sit on the sand since last evening. She very excitedly tried to eat the food this morning but spat it out immediately. close? may be tonight? I hope she gives birth this weekend so that I have enough time to babysit her new born.

I think I am back in the game....I think. Added ~2ppm ammonia last night which disappeared within 12 hours. The only mistake: I should have added 5ppm to do a true test (oh friday night bliss). Will do it tonight.

Updated day 22 result. Ammonia is finally down to zero at 36 hour test. Will add more ammonia tonight.

dang. its happening in my tank too. I did a water change yesterday, raised ammonia to 5ppm. After 17 hours, I still had about 5ppm ammonia. After 24 hours I still have 0.5ppm!!! My tank used to process 5ppm ammonia within 12 hours. Not any more!

updated the log. Did a 85% water change and added ammonia expecting to raise the level to 2ppm. Forgot that the tap water already has ammonia in it. Ammonia tested close to 5ppm last night. Nitrite was off the chart even after 85% water change!!!! jeez and no sign of nitrate yet.

hahaha. Thanks OldMan47. WD eventually replied on my other thread. I am stuck with high nitrites for more than a week now and waiting. Nitrites in my tank seem to take forever to drop. The pH drops every once in a while which I fix by doing a large water change.

Thanks, waterdrop. I have stopped adding ammonia at 12 hour marks (I did it only once). It makes sense now. I am trying to be patient doing daily nitrite tests for the day when I see it drop. Its only been a week now (feels like a month has passed). I think I have at least 2 more weeks to go...
