Sorry I did a bit of a post and run the other day. Quick update: final fish arrived yesterday (a day early). Tested levels after 24 hours and everything looks perfect. Will probably check once more tonight for my own peace of mind but I think all is well.

  Absolutely! Not planning on stocking fish until I have 0,0 for at least a few days to be sure. I'm not expecting nitrites to be 0 when I check in the AM... but hopefully by the end of the weekend and then fish late next week if all goes well.

Got the rest of my plants delivered a day early. I've been waiting for a couple of weeks for these! Pretty happy with it, but not 100% sure yet.  

Nitrites down to 0.5 PPM. Yahoo!! Guessing yesterday's reading must have been closer to 2 than 5 then. I have a hard time reading it when it's over 2 PPM.   Dosed 5 ml of ammonia. Hopefully it won't be too much longer now.

Forgive me. I am misremembering. I DID have to dose Seachem Prime the same day I started cycling. The sand I had originally put in there had limestone in it, so I had removed it and added new sand. Since the initial dechlor was only large enough for the first fill, I did have to dechlorinate...

  When I first filled the tank, I used the bottle that came with the tank (Tetra AquaSafe) to dechlorinate the water. I will be using Seachem Prime going forward, but I haven't changed nor added any new water since I started cycling.   Here is my log so far:  

So I'm a bit confused. I added maintenance dose of 1.75 ml on 2/24. The next morning I had an ammonia reading of 0.25 and this morning I still have an ammonia reading of 0.25. This doesn't make sense to me since it was able to process the 5 ml ammonia addition on 2/21 in just a little over 24...

Stats this morning:   Ammonia is back down to 0.25 (so it seems to have processed the 5 ml I added yesterday morning as it read 0.25 at that time) Nitrite is still sky high Nitrate is 5   Reading the cycling instructions, I should give a maintenance feeding (so in my case ~1 3/4 ml of ammonia)...

Update:   Last night (Day 8) my ammonia reading was 0.5 PPM and nitrite was ~2 PPM.   This morning ammonia was down to 0.25 PPM and nitrite was for sure over 2 PPM, so I re-dosed 5 ml of ammonia which put me back between 2 PPM and 3 PPM. Will check numbers again in the morning!

I have VERY low light right now (<1 WPG) on my 60G and am considering upgrading my lighting. I don't want a ton of light, just enough to maintain healthy lower light plants. Is either of these better than the other?   Option 1   Option 2

Yahoo! I have a Nitrite reading. Ammonia seems to be between 1 and 2 PPM and Nitrite is about 0.25 PPM.

  Good idea on the background! So far I'm planning on doing 8 - 10 Head and Tail Light tetras. If I can find them for a reasonable price, I'd like to get 5 dwarf chain loaches otherwise 5 zebra loaches instead. Also planning on 1 BN pleco.   Thanks for the heads up! I appreciate it.
