    Old Fish.....how Much Is Coincidence?

It might help. I presume there is no way you can turn down the flow of water as they say you can never over filter a tank but the flow of water could be the problem. How about adding more plants such as amazon sword to help disperse the flow of water before changing the filter?

    Old Fish.....how Much Is Coincidence?

When you had the more powerful filter attached were the fish having to swim more frantically than normal to compete against the current? Please don't take these comments personally but i'm trying to think of all the options.

    Old Fish.....how Much Is Coincidence?

Tank size sounds fine. Is there any debris at all on the bottom of the tank? Even if there is a little bit on the bottom as i have found out in the past this can reduce oxygen levels.

    Lonely Rainbow

Thanks for your reply. He is in a 2 foot tank but is about 6 inches long. Part of the problem i'm having is finding big enough Cichlids to put with him as i think that anything smaller he would hassle. He is quite aggressive and this might sound strange but has been know to face up to our cat at...

    Lonely Rainbow

I have an adult male 8 year old Rainbow Cichlid that i have owned since he was very small. I originally had two females with him and he produced one baby with one of them. Over the last three years despite my best efforts both females and the young fish have passed away. The male has been on his...

    Breeding Goldfish

My Wifes 92 year old grandad has got some goldfish in a 2 foot aquarium which he gets a great deal of enjoyment out of and i help maintain. The goldfish have been in the tank for about 18 months when they were brought in from the small garden pond. One of the fish has a very large stomach but...

Guppy Fry In A Planted Tank

I would go down the route of getting 2-3 females. Getting more male guppies would be a good short term solution but if you wanted to add more females in the future there would be a problem. Could also affect other possible future purchases of female livebearers.

Kribs Fighting Is This One Female

I'm not very good at converting size of tank to amount of litres it holds. I' guessing your tank is about 18 inches long? If it is you could go for dwarf gouramis, just a word of warning they can be very timid and will need a close eye kept on them. Have you ruled out any sort of tetra? If not...

Converting Back To A Community Tank

I would avoid keeping barbs and guppies together due to fin nipping by the barbs. Pearl gouramis(2 female to 1 male) would be great tank mates for guppies. Avoid at all costs golden gouramis as they can be very teritorial(i speak from experience!) Neon, rainbow, bleeding heart and black neons...

Kribs Fighting Is This One Female

Before reintroducing both Kribs perhaps introduce half a dozen relatively peaceful community fish(possibly neon tetras of a reasonable size) and possibly two-three corydoras catfish so the male Krib isn't able to claim the bottom or middle of the tank as his teritory. The decor sounds ok. The...

Kribs Fighting Is This One Female

I'm 90% sure your Krib is a female. I have kept Kribs in the past with this scenario occuring. I have two suggestions. The first is to put the male in with the tank you had her in for photo separated by a divider. Then completely change the layout of the tank they were originally in. Then place...

How Did You Get Into Fishkeeping.

When i was about 10 my grandad kept 2 tropical tanks. I spent ages talking to him about the inhabitants of his tank. When i was about 12 i got myself a 1 foot tank with some goldfish. One tank became two with the addition of a fancy coldwater tank. When i was 16 i spent all my Summer holiday...

    Unwell Corydoras Catfish

Can anyone help? Two weeks ago i bought four corydoras catfish from my usual supplier. Three are small and one is large. The large one spends most of his time on the bottom of the tank on his side. He did not look 100% when i got him home. He has not lost any colour and is still feeding and...

    My Coldwater Tank

Great pictures. I prefer the name dwarf for the black moor as they are by far my most favourite coldwater fish! I currently have a three foot tropical community set up but have kept coldwater in a three foot in the past. When space and money allow i will hopefully be setting up a coldwater tank...

    White Thick Cobwebs

I have a 3ft community set up. I have noticed in the last couple of weeks that there has been small white bunches of a cobweb type substance growing from the gravel upwards. Although i recently added some new live plants the problem started just before i got them. The fish and plants are healthy...

I'm sorry to here of your experience with the mollies. Please don't let this put you off keeping them in the future. I have had a very similar thing happen to me. Pearl Gouramis

I have a 3 foot tank with a mixture of black neons, glowlights, bleeding heart tetras, neon tetras, cherry barbs and two adult pearl gouramis. I thought that the gouramis were both female, however they seem to be very teritorial and the rest of the fish are hiding at the bottom of the tank. Has...
