    water change temperature

When you say "Right Temperature", are you trying to bring it to the exact same temp? FWIW, I don't bother matching my water to the temp of the tank, as long as it stays above 70F, I'm happy. If it goes too low, I'll boil some water in the kettle and add it to a bucket of water before adding it...

    UK fish shop directory.

I'm with Andy_t on this one. I regularly visit about 3 - 4 of the ones mentioned in it, and although none are really cramped, 1 in particular always seems to have tanks with ich! Needless to say I never buy fish from this shop and advise anyone I know not to either. Mj

    Ccichlids for a 10G?

Cockatoo cichlids IME is another name for Apistogrammi Cacatuoides. I had a pair of mine in with another pair of Apistos. and they knocked lumps out of each other. This is just my experience of them tho, others may have different opinions Mj

small cichlids for a 20 gallon

Probably better off with the dwarf varieties, like Rams or Apistos. There's another post asking the same questions as yourself. Might be worthwhile having a look there. It's the Curiosity post ny PMOYNIHA Mj

I don't know much about cichlids..

You were right to disbelieve your lfs. For example, Jewels grow to ~6", Rams ~3" and as for Peacocks, they grow to ~30"!!! The first and last one are also very aggresive!! Mj

    What should I get?

Maybe some dwarf cichlids, like Apistos or Rams, then something for the top of the tank. Mj

    Help!!!!!!!

It could be because it's still new to the tank. Given time I would think it will go to the surface, especially when hungry. I had a similar problem with mine when I moved them from one tank to another, they would hide when I fed them and only when the food dropped would they eat it, but now...

how much wattage do my heaters need to be

Well I use 2 x 300w heaters for my 170l tank, but it's in an unheated garage with temperatures starting to hit freezing. When it's warmer I'll only run 1 of them. Mj

    Cacatuoides eggs

I've just read CMs post and see what you mean. It looks like I have no choice but to keep them where they are and hope they can defend them against the BN & Cories...Fingers are crossed, although it does make for hard typing :D Mj

    Cacatuoides eggs

Unfortunately I don't have a spare tank I can move them to and it would take a while to get a new tank cycled, etc. Anyway, just a few more questions: Would they survive in a breeding trap, or is that way to small? I've noticed the male never seems to bother with them, and in fact goes...

    Cacatuoides eggs

All, My Cacatuoides (Sp) have just surprised me and laid eggs. The surprise was in the fact that the female was pregnant!! :D :D :D Anyway, I've got no idea what to do about them, so I'm looking for help. Currently they're in a general tank with Red Robin Gouramis, Cories, Clown Plec &...

my tank and how it looks

In my opinion, for what it's worth, lots of plants and objects mean lots of hiding places for the fish...Nice tank, although I'm not a great fan of coloured gravel!! Mj Ps You ARE a bad girl!! Pps We've all been there :D

    How many Firemouths??

They prefer to be kept in pairs, as they tend to be more aggressive if kept on their own. I suppose it's possible to keep 2 in a 20g, providing that you plan to move them into a bigger tank in the future, but don't quote me on that. :D Mj

    porroon or parroon shark

I posted a similar post in the chit chat section, as I've seen them in a few of lfs' going under the name of Dolphin Sharks, and I'm glad I didn't buy one of them. Have a look at planetcatfish.com for the information about them. Mj

Hi all, I'm not sure where this should be posted, so I'll post it here. Just been in a couple of shops today, and I've noticed that more and more are stocking "Dolphin Sharks". Does anyone have any info. about these fish? Just curious. From what I can remember, they were kind of silvery...

    pleco killer

I've got 2 Clown Ples in the same tank, along with a Bristlenose & Corys, and so far all is well, none of them fight with each other, although the Clowns have picked out spots to reside when not eating. Having said all that, the fish are young ones. Mj

    Fish recommendation?

Hi Juan, I must hold my hand up and admit that I enjoyed reading about the antics of Bert & Ernie. Have they settled down now? I was thinking about a JD, as I've seen them for £1 and they're very small, about 0.5", thus I could get 1, maybe 2 in case 1 dies, the now and let it grow out. I've...

    Fish recommendation?

I'm thinking about setting up another tank in the future, not sure what size yet, but will be probably a 48(l)x12(w)x18(h) or 48(l)x15(w)x18(h). Anyway, the question is what fish would you recommend for this tank? I'm thinking along the lines of adding a JD, so it would have to be compatible...

    Bristlenose Plec or Bristlenose Catfish

Hi Ken, Thanks for the reply, as it confirmed my initial thoughts, but wanted to make sure, as I seen a BN Plec today, but wasn't sure what size it grows to. As an aside, I'm looking for a bit more of advice if you don't mind. I have a 3ft and a 4ft tank. In the 3ft tank I have 2 Clown Plecs...

    Conerting from Gravel to Sand

I've got a 3ft tank up and running with gravel and an undergravel filter. I was planning on swapping the gravel with sand and the U/G with a Fluval 3 filter (Due to lack of space). The question is what is the best way to keep bacteria in the tank, so that I don't have to cycle the tank again...

    My Firemouths

I've seen so many conflicting information on sexing Firemouths, that I gave up on sexing mine. Some say the male is more coloured, with others it's that the male has longer dorsal & anal fins. The method I've decided to go with is if I get fry then I have a pair, and if I don't then they're...

    Female Platy Acting Strange

Ive never bought from Dobbies as I find them a bit dearer than others, so can't say what their returns plicy is, but I hope you can trade them in either for something else, or even a credit note. 38. E

    Female Platy Acting Strange

If you like the guppies, then I'd probably suggest maybe trading in 2 or 3 of them for female guppies, as it's always better to have more females than males. (Saves the females from getting hassled too much) If, on the other hand, you don't want any guppies then you can trade them all in. Be...
