Aww, I loved your tank. Can't wait to see the new one though. Good luck :)

    Starting Fresh (29G Tanks)

That sounds good to me, Make sure you add the firefish and clown goby before the clownfish. Also I think margarita snails prefer lower temperatures so you might want to skip that one.

    Llj's 8G... Yuma/zoanthid Garden

Read the whole thing. Looks good. :) Didn't realize the forum had such a mantis obsession, reminds me of SkiFletch. :D Did you ever get the aquaclear converted? Can you give more details on the procedure to convert it to a refugium? Thanks!

Info On The Salty Side :)

I can answer a few of your questions. Generally the best size for starters is around 50-100 gallons. 24gallons will be a bit difficult to maintain water quality, and you're pretty limited with fish selection, but it's doable. Larger tanks will be more expensive to set up initially, but you have...

    N3Ont3Tra's 37G Reef Tank Journal

Well it's about time I update this... I spent a lot of my time this summer teaching my mom to take care of the tank, in preparation for when I left for college. She learned enough that I was confident that my fish would be in good hands... A week after I leave for college, hurricane irene goes...

    Burrowing Fish - Id?

Hi guys. :) Nearly a year ago I got some plants from my LFS and found that a fish had hitchhiked along with them. It looked like a small pleco or some kind of algae eater. It was obviously a bottom feeder, so i just tossed it in the tank (29g peaceful community) and forgot about it. Fast forward...

    29G Low Tech

I've had them just as long as the other fish, though. The guppies were floating at the top. One of the gourami's was being eaten by the kuhli loaches, and I know they didn't kill it. Also the fish died during the day, and the UD catfish hardly move in the daytime. Actually I don't even see them...

    29G Low Tech

No idea. The fish started dieing before the dosing... The excel does seem to be working, but I don't know if the affected leaves are going to recover, even though the algae is gone. They're still kind of brown and semi-transparent... ...What's hydra?

    29G Low Tech

I've been adding flourish excel daily according to the directions on the bottle, until yesterday. I found a dead shrimp and another dead gourami. So I skipped a day of dosing.

    Algae Help.

It's invasive, unsightly, and clogging my powerheads. :/ It's on almost every rock, and like I said, the xenia is starting to grow over the algae instead of on the rock, and then the algae breaks off and the coral gets lost. And I can't find the little card that shows the directions for my...

    Algae Help.

My emerald crab doesn't touch it. I haven't noticed my scarlet hermits eating it but I only have a few of those. Yeah I guess it's some sort of macro algae. I dont know lol.

    Algae Help.

20-30% Water change once a month. I know it should be less water more often but I've been busy. I'll try to do water changes more often. I'll test the water later tonight.

    Algae Help.

I've had this algae for months now.. Actually probably over a year and I can't stand it anymore lol :shout: It's everywhere. It breaks off in little pieces and gets stuck in the powerheads. My corals grow on the algae instead of on the rocks, and then the algae breaks off and the corals float...

    29G Low Tech

The pH has always been low like that. I'm pretty sure it's the same out of the tap. The light came today. :D It's very sleek and nice looking and overall the tank looks much nicer being fully lit. But I found another dead fish, a pygmy gourami. :/ I have no idea whats wrong with these fish...

Tested what I had the kits (and color cards) for: Ammonia - have the tests but no directions or color code Nitrite - 0ppm Nitrate - ~20ppm pH - 6.4 kH - no directions gH - no directions Phosphate - 1ppm So, not sure what's happening with the fish.

    29G Low Tech

Lol. Well 2 guppies have died. 1 died a few days ago and the second died today. Both were floating on the surface. All the other fish seem fine, but I'll test the water later today.

    29G Low Tech

I'm pretty fed up with the light, so I just bought a new one, the same one I was looking at earlier. It didn't work without the timer either, and I tried taking out the bulb and putting it back in, and different outlets and other random things, I have no idea why it stopped working. I also...

    29G Low Tech

Thanks Llj for moving my thread. :) I've set up some goals for this tank. Short Term - I want everything to be healthy sooner rather than later. The health of the fish and plants (and shrimp) come first. I need a stable ecosystem before I can mess with the plant arrangements. Long Term - I'm...

    My Dream Tank

I would love a tank with a colony of yellow headed jawfish. :D it doesn't really need to be that big, those are small fish, they just need surface area. A 36x36x18 would be great and that's about 100 gallons i think. Add in a school of anthias, and maybe a wrasse, and it's perfect.

    Anenome's

My clownfish dug a ditch in the back/corner of the tank, and he used to bring about half of his food back there. He doesn't bring any food back there anymore, but he still keeps the ditch maintained.

Top 10 Albums Of All Time.

I don't get the hate for X & Y, imo it's a lot better than Viva La Vida (although I still like that too). And yeah I love Bloodbuzz Ohio, probably my favorite album so far this year, although I'm still eagerly awaiting Interpol and Flamingo (Brandon Flowers), and rumors of another Coldplay.
