    Potential Disaster!

I have just found out that I accidentally unplugged my heater  mistaking it for my filter when I did a water change on Sunday! :shout: The temp was down to 20c and my big dalmation mollie is floundering around the bottom. I did a 16% water change with warmer water and put the heater...

    Guppy Died

Should I euthanise them then? Does it pass on anything to other fish if they die and are subsequently eaten before I can remove them?

    Guppy Died

One of my platies died last Sunday and 2 days ago one of my guppies started showing the same symptoms, ie sitting on the bottom laboured breathing with occaisional swimming only to return to the bottom. Fishless And Fish Cycles

Don't listen to Pets At Home! Find a good shop that only sells fish if possible. They are not specialists so don't always know what they are talking about.

    Bactozym

If thats the case does anyone know where /if you can get Bio-Spira in the U.K.? Otherwise anybody actually used it here yet? How can Tetra market something if it doesn't actually work!!!?

    Bactozym

What about Tetra 'Safestart'? This is a new product here in the UK similar to Bio-Spira in the U.S.A. Its supposed to work with 'live' bacteria not the type used in 'cycle' and other similar products.Has anyone tried it yet? Any reports ?

    Fishless Cycling

Hello again everyone. I was on here aweek or 2 ago having seemingly failed with my fishless cycle that I'd started on 20th July over 7 weeks ago. As my cycle looked to have stopped I did a big water change and put in 2 dalmation mollies on 28th August. To date they seem to be fine and I even had...

    Cycling With Platy's?

Whats the highest level of Ammonia they can tolerate before you should do a water change during cycling?

    Fishless Cycling

Well as I said on Friday, I decided to do a complete (well 95%) water change. This still left a reading of 0.25 ammonia and 0 nitrates. So I added some ammo lock. I visited my lfs and the guy asked me why I wanted to do a fishless cycle and said not many people did this. I told him it was all...

    Fishless Cycling

Thanks rdd. I will keep you posted. I did wonder if I already had plenty of nitrite eating bacteria, just not enough ammonia eaters. My tank is 54 litres thats about 12 uk galls i think.

    Fishless Cycling

Well I am about to give up on this fishless cycling lark! Its now 5 weeks since I started and I am stuck on zero nitrites but always between 1-5 ammonia. I can't ever seem to get rid of all my ammonia. My nitrites reached a high of 5 on 10/8 but have been on 0 since 18/8. Instead of waiting for...

    Fishless Cycling

Thats great scubadoo!! I am dead jealous! I have put a nice old filter pad into my tank today, so am hoping it has the desired effect. I was assured no disease was present in the donor tank. but as the foam pad is from a fluval 3+ and mines a fluval 2+ i have just squeezed it out in the water...

    Fishless Cycling

Thanks rd1952 i ave only added ammonia 3 times but i thought there was still enough at 3ppm to serve the bacteria. I will try adding some more ammonia to bring back to 5ppm.

    Fishless Cycling

tested again today and am still showing 1 - 2 ppm ammonia. Whats going on, why isn't it being converted to nitrite after three and a half weeks? Have my ammonia eating bacteria died? If rd1952 or anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

    Fishless Cycling

Hi everyone, As a total newbie I have been trying to do a fishless cycle in my 54 litre (12 gall) for 3 weeks+ 3 days now. My problem from today is I have 0 nitrites but 1.0 ammonia. Nitrites were 5.0 on 10th August but ammonia still seems to be present. Nitrates are 10. Any ideas please...
