I would say a protein skimmer is a MUST!!! Ive been running a SW tank for the last 8 months, and ive only used tap water, and the only accident ive had was an ammonia spike because i didnt have a protein skimmer. IMO RO water is better, but its just recommended, if your fish stay happy, then...

SW is more front end expensive i found, but once you have eveything, the only thing you buy afterwords is salt mix and fish food :good: I usually have to buy a new bucket of salt every 2-3 months basically everything you use for FW you can you for SW. YOu should have a protein skimmer...

Surprisingly my damsels have never killed anyone, and ive had them in there for like 5 months. They bug new fish for like 2 days when i introduce them but afterwords they are like best friends....it's weird. and explain what you mean when talking about the yellow tang as ive yet to pick up...

Yes i agree, i only have 25 LBS right now, i couldnt afford much at the time. The tanks been running for about 3 months, I only have 1 blood shrimp and 4 starfish(the ones that look like octopus') Im planning to get about 65 more lbs of live rock.

I've had one for over 2 years....they will only stink if u let them. Just bath them occasionally whenever they start to smell. They sleep like 20 hrs a day.

My water is safe again! Just got it all checked out, everythings back to normal, glad to see bottom feeders survived the whole ordeal as did my yellow tang. Will be putting more liverock in soon, as well as a couple of fish. what a difference a protein skimmer can make! :lol:

I dont know much about this hobby yet, but a protein skimmer is so important!!! it costs me alot of money in dead fish!

Still have not got any liverock, hoping to go next week. Ammonia is starting to go down. My fish I had quarantined all died, i lost 13 in total I have 1 alive, and hes starting to eat again and look lifeful, my yellow tang, so hes my miracle fish haha. This was a painful & expensive mistake...

I have 8 snails, and 2 cleaner shrimps, no hermit crabs. I use 2 maxijet powerheads I'm going out ASAP to get more liverock Ive dont 3 water changes since my ammonia reading was high and its starting to go down.

Yes i made sure the tank was fully cycled before i starting buying the more expensive fish, i checked with my lfs. i have 2 powerheads 1 on each side with a 295 GPH rate
