    Mirrors?

Thanks everyone. I will give the tinfoil a try. I suspected that a mirror might not be such a good idea as it seemed that maybe very aggressive fish would would go after thier reflection. Now I have an excuse to tell my wife "no." :hey: By the way, if anyone else has any background ideas they...

    Mirrors?

I am not entirely sold on the idea either but I am making a lot of concessions to my wife to get the tank out of the downstairs family room and into the living room. I may just give it a try as I already have an old mirror I could cut down slightly. Thanks for the reply.

    Mirrors?

Sorry, should have included this with my last post. My wife wants a mirror backing on outside of the 55gal I am setting up. I have never tried this before. Is this OK? Any problems such as upsetting certain types of fish etc.? Thanks again.

    Sticker Shock

Hello everyone: I mentioned in an earlier post that I have recently begun setting up a 55 gal after almost 20 years of absence from the hobby. I went to Petco and a couple of other stores recently to purchase a new reflector hood, filter etc. I could not believe the prices on some of this...

    Filter

Thanks to everyone for your reply. In reponse to the type and quantity of fish--my concession to my wife for being allowed to put this tank on her new carpet in the living room is that it would be a tetra tank (her favorites). I am therefore planning on a school of a dozen or so cardinals...

    Filter

Thanks for your replies. I have been out of the hobby for so long I didn't even know what a bio wheel was until I started looking around. I found in the old days if you could get the filters right, that was 90% of the battle in keeping healthy fish. I have to admit, I am somewhat skeptical...

    Filter

Hello: I was a fairly serious hobbiest for many years but have not had a tank for 20 years. I recently started setting up a 55 gal freshwater tank. I am totally unfamiliar with the new generation of filters and would like some recommendations for a reliable, efficient filter for this tank...
