    Hello from Tasmania

This sent me on a wonderful rabbit hole into the evolutionary path of salamanderfish, I guess noone ever said nature works in straight forward ways😆

    Hello from Tasmania

That sounds absolutely magical, well worth getting soaked the whole trip for how breathtaking those few moments are😊

    Low hardness but high pH?

I guess maybe it's easier for them to regulate their body pH to the water pH than to osmoregulate minerals in or out of their body? Sounds like I have a lot of reading to do😁

    Low hardness but high pH?

Definitely more a standard community setup (likely bronze corydora and phantom tetra or very similiar) than any super acidic lovers so it sounds like you're on the money. Even just knowing the tanks can sit at different pH from the same source is a huge relief🫡

    Low hardness but high pH?

Too easy, lights this week then revert the changed light hours and try surface agitation for a week? I'll try to remember to treat it like science, only one stimulus change per "experiment" or the results mean nothing😅

    Hello from Tasmania

And the crayfish being bright blue would make it hard to pass as "I really thought it was a different species" 😅 Do you have any fish in your local area that you'd keep if it was legal/do keep because it is legal?

    Low hardness but high pH?

I'll cut back light hours, increase surface agitation and hopefully report back in a few days with a slightly lowered pH😁

    Low hardness but high pH?

The testing water that's too fresh sounded like the culprit, but I age our tapwater 48hrs for my 3ft tanks water changes (the fish seemed to dislike the unaged water, probably due to what your first point mentions) and it tested 7.2, which that tank also tests stable at. The plants sound like...

    Low hardness but high pH?

Hey everyone, I've got a query that I'm struggling to solve about water chemistry. There are no fish in this tank, so it's not an urgent fix just looking to understand. It's a 180L (roughly 47 Gallon), 120cm/4ft long tank. Has been setup for 6 months as a daphnia/micro invert/plant tank but was...

    Hello from Tasmania

The galaxias are definitely curious little dudes, the wildlife here is what sparked my initial interest in aquariums so the restricted imports/ban on invertebrates is a small price to keep the islands ecology safe.

    Hello from Tasmania

Sadly not, but I'll be living vicariously through everyone else's fluffy buddies😁

    Hello from Tasmania

Hey everyone, my name's Steff. Really happy to have found a place to read up on other people's experiences and learn from a great bunch. Right now the only fish I keep are a group of 5 odessa barbs in an 130L/3 ft long planted tank, soon to be adding a few more but in Tas imports can be very hit...
