Mini Predator or Opportunist predator/Omnivore tank

My area is below neutral water most towns and cities nearby are harder water aswell. Liverpool not far away is hard water. Soft water that goes softer and more acidic when you cycle the tank according to my LFS. If I can ever get the hang of changing water chemistry that will open up my options...

Mini Predator or Opportunist predator/Omnivore tank

😍😍 Beautys I love the colouring I saw these on Aquadiction I'm sure they prefer harder water though but stunning fish. Awesome and unique way they hunt too.

Mini Predator or Opportunist predator/Omnivore tank

Talking of Tetras being eaten I can't see that happening to African Blue Spot Tetras, as peaceful as they apparently are they're pretty big... I love the look of them but a school of them would need a huge tank. I'm definitely limited by tank size. Will have to end up getting a Betta and be done...

I think Archer Fish are for harder water but that does sound pretty cool 😁😁

Mini Predator or Opportunist predator/Omnivore tank

They will do as they're ambush predators they hide a d try and mimic leaves and ambush their prey, you'd probably have to have a sparingly planted aquarium to see them more I'm guessing I don't know, it's a shame if that's the case, which seems likely aswell, as they're beautiful fish.

Mini Predator or Opportunist predator/Omnivore tank

I'm thinking of maybe just getting A Leopard Bush Fish, a small school of Congo Tetras and A small West African Cichlid no more than 4" max. What tank size do you think I would need for that? If need be I could just get the Leopard Bush Fish and Congo Tetras, the Tetras should be too big for the...

    Hey

Not all predatory fish are too aggressive with the right sized tankmates I hear, unless they're the majority of Cichlid species haha. I wouldn't have piranhas with most things, not a fan of them anyway although I do like other characins. I get what you're saying though i wouldn't want too many...

    Hey

Yeah mainly South American and West African Cichlids generally will do well in soft water but Central Americans and East African Cichlids are better in hard alkaline water. I still can't quite think what I want to get. I'm half tempted to just get a small set up with a male Betta to see how I...

It wasn't the Hujeta Gar it was another fish, but on the tank size and their nature I was correct.

Mini Predator or Opportunist predator/Omnivore tank

I think they might be Hujeta Gars that people call freshwater Barracudas I could be wrong though. Yeah I think they aren't too big but due to their nature they need bigger tanks as they are really active and fast and can hit the glass sometimes apparently. I think it's them anyway. Cool fish.

Mini Predator or Opportunist predator/Omnivore tank

I'm not that keen on Exodon Paradoxus to be honest, and Channa just because it'd have to be a species only so I'm guessing I'd have to look at things that would be more Opportunist rather than obligatory piscivores. Leopard Bush Fish are an option I guess but I prefer something with teeth. When...

Mini Predator or Opportunist predator/Omnivore tank

That is the only place I didn't check out in Widnes I checked 3 others. Premier Aquatics by me is really good the stock is always changing aswell he gets more in. I will have to have a look there when I go next. Maidenhead Aquatics in Bold Heath had Pike Cichlids in but ones that grow too large...

Mini Predator or Opportunist predator/Omnivore tank

You can get dwarf Snakeheads but you can't really find tankmates for them and they need to be kept Subtropical at room temperature no heater apparently for Channa Bleheri anyway. Cool if you wanna keep one on its own though. There are quite a few pike like species like Pike Livebearers and...

Mini Predator or Opportunist predator/Omnivore tank

Any ideas on what fish for what size tank as I will get a tank that would suit whatever fish. 150 litres would probably be for a few dependent on size but even that may be too small but then again I don't even wanna go that big for my first tank if I can go slightly but obviously not too much...

Mini Predator or Opportunist predator/Omnivore tank

Yeah, in theory all, if not most you could consider predatory in some way or another but I'm talking about those that will take insects and live foods but would take smaller fish if given the chance, I prefer predators with teeth type of thing... I'm obviously not planning on giving them feeder...

Mini Predator or Opportunist predator/Omnivore tank

When I talked about things like South American Cichlids on another forum I was told for 4 Inch pair at least I'd need a 40 gallon breeder which I think is 150 litres. I'm looking at other types of smallish predators now but I can't find much that size. Ideally I'd start off with a smaller tank...

I guess this limits me to something hardier like a jewel Cichlid or something as the centrepiece.

That's really sad because they are beautiful and you're right with such specific temperatures to stay at it does limit things. Absolutely stunning fish though.

Mini Predator or Opportunist predator/Omnivore tank

Speaking of the Killifish group of fish I've just came across the Blue Gularis and think that might be what I go for now. As for what Tankmates I'm not sure yet. But saw that and thought it was beautiful and they get a fair size while still being manageable. Can you keep them on their own or are...
