Ive heard plants cant grow in sand. My only root feeder will be aponogeton, everything else is a leaf feeder.

Im likely going to feed two foods per fish. frozen brine shrimp twice a week for my betta and corys. Hikari vibra bites baby on any other day for my betta, and hikari sinking carnivore pellets on any other day for my corys.

This tank will be a betta tank, so low flow, but the next is going to be a 15 gallon community tank, with some hillstream loaches (high flow) and maybe chili rasboras or danios. Only the upper part of the tank will have the rotational high flow, the lower tank is meant to be calmer.

About that carpet, turns out that the carpet plants are dwarf baby tears. An extremely difficult plant that needs high light, Co2, or it will melt away. Ill try and get caribsea super naturals, if my petsmart doesnt have it, ill get black sand, but ill try for normal sand.

Wont the plants eat up all the ammonia from the fish? The fish im using arent exactly big poopers like goldfish.

Ill water change weekly, 20%. I will have low flow since its a betta tank, but im gonna have a filter that will give some surface agitation to give oxygen and stop biofilm from forming.

Water changes over 50% twice a week? That sounds like it leaves no nitrate, and is actually more harmful. We water change to remove excess nitrate, right? Also, hornwort can grow up to 5 inches a week, so can aponogeton.

Every plant gets its own root tab or two under it. 3 nutrient shredders: aponogeton, amazon frogbit, and hornwort. Christmas moss and java fern are the only calm one.

I did some research, and I think I would like cories in a small school of 4 maybe. I should get natural sand, but do you have any reccomendations for sand? links appreciated. Also, do corys fight with shrimp? Im planning to have 3 shrimp with the cories.
