    148.6L (39.2 gallon) aquarium journal

A few days after I put the Java ferns in, I found two accidental hitchhiker snails. They must've settled on one of the ferns before it was brought. The wood still has the slimy harmless mould, I'm waiting for it to go away naturally.

Day 13. Finally got some java fern and acclimating it right now. Also got some Seachem Flourish to try and help them grow. Shop staff said that you can dose it once a week and that you can place it at the same time as putting fish in (which I did not do), but I don't know if it's true. I'm...

    Today's a new day.

So I watched tonight's BH&G episode, and they had a segment on axolotls, including a morphed axolotl, which was shown on camera. Interesting look into them.

    Today's a new day.

The tank is cycling nicely now. It has been set up since yesterday, so it's going to take a long while before moving the remaining silvertips in, and to add a bigger group of their kind.

We have filled up the water and let the filter run. The pump is a bit noisy, but the filter is running smoothly now. We might do the same for the heater, but we'll see how we go.

I think the local LFS's sell them. I will check next time I go there. Problem is they are not on the AqAdvisor stocking calculator so guessing the percentage of stocking for these fish is the best part before buying them. They are pretty fish, but less colourful when they're pale in the LFS...

At least the redeyes are slightly bigger than the silvertips. Blackline tail tetras are cool, they have a greenish sheen on their bodies, along with their diagonal line on the anal fin and tail area. I was wondering I could have a go on having them. I have watched a documentary on the river to...

    Today's a new day.

Rio Sao Francisco, here we go! I am deciding to make the silvertips' natural range in an aquarium. There are two other tetras that live in the area (blackline tail and redeye), so this area is lesser known than the Amazon or the Parana rivers. I'm aiming to finish the project before Christmas...

    148.6L (39.2 gallon) aquarium journal

We might get some plants on Sunday because of my dad's work schedule, he's working with Transperth. He's having late shifts now, driving trains all night. The driftwood is in the tank a few days ago, but it might have leached tannins today. Slow and steady might have been winning the race now...

    Today's a new day.

Finally got out the driftwood after the waterlogging process that lasted a bit more than a week. There were swimming worms on the container where the wood was waterlogged, along with frequent water changes to get rid of tannins. After I got the wood out of the container, I hosed the wood to...

    148.6L (39.2 gallon) aquarium journal

I do not want excess tannins to leach in the tank, and I've been wanting to do a clearwater tank with wood. The area where water comes out of the filter may land on the lid and will spill on it but due to space constraints, I had to do it on the side instead of the back.

    148.6L (39.2 gallon) aquarium journal

I'm writing a journal about my newest aquarium- a 3ft long 39 gallon brought from a LFS and I can't wait to make it a good home for my remaining silvertip tetras. They have been in the old 10 gallon tall for nearly two years, so I am yet to put them in the 39 gallon once it's cycled and properly...

    Today's a new day.

The aquarium has the foam strip underneath the tank (weight even) like the old tank. Yes, I know about the filter, but we don't have room at the back because of the table's near the wall, pieces of glass glued on the tank for lid parts and no power point on the back, but on the side. The old...

    Today's a new day.

Here's the aquarium I brought yesterday. I have a change of heart regarding the silvertip tetras. I might put the remaining ones from the 10 gallon to the 39.2 gallon (148.6L) once it's cycled and prepared, and put them in a bigger group than last time. The dimensions are 91 x 35.5 x 46cm and...

    Today's a new day.

Yes. We may do a leak test, see if the filter and heater is working, etc. That is before we actually hardscape, plant and cycle the tank. Yeah, I know. My dad isn't as experienced in aquaria, and simply got that misinformation on his head. He says that because he doesn't want me to rush on it...

    Today's a new day.

Yesterday I had graduated high school, and I finally got the 91 x 35 x 46cm aquarium today. It will be set up tomorrow, but no plants until the water is cycled for at least a day, dad said. I will have pictures of it tomorrow.

    Today's a new day.

Yeah, but that's what my dad wants me to do because the only size we get in the toyroom shelf is 92cm wide, 40cm depth and 36.5cm height. The toyroom table is 110cm long, and we have to leave some space for access to the tank i.e. moving it around, gravel vac. Nothing else. No taller than...

Note on future tank inhabitants: I might keep Gastrodermus pygmaeus (pygmy cory) too if the tank size is enough for a shoal of 10.

    Today's a new day.

Yay! 12 years of schooling (in total, primary and high school) is all over! Finally graduated today (the actual Year 12 graduation for the school as a whole is next month). I am an alumnus of '24. It's good to relieve these moments because I'll miss the teachers here. I have reached the finish...

    Today's a new day.

I just wanted to know about it, that's all. I haven't seen a lot of change lately. We are improving as we go, and some things need to change in the pet industry. I know that people have different opinions, and that's okay. We're all different. :)
  25. elephantnose3334

    Today's a new day.

Not over yet until next week, no exams, that's it. Farewells are on next Thursday, then the actual graduation next month. I'd like to talk about a certain issue in the pet industry. There are some things I don't understand in the pet industry as a whole. I see that the light at the end of the...

    Today's a new day.

Hi everyone. I'm doing fine at the moment. Things change as school will be officially over for me. It's springtime and it's starting to warm up again. Yesterday, I went to a local-run pet store and I noticed they sell bala shark-minnows (a known tank-buster) here. I had a look and read the...

    Today's a new day.

Sorry I'm very busy at the last couple of weeks, school is not good. Seems different. The remaining silvertips are hiding in the tank for a while now. Water change done last Saturday, just trying to look after them. I think the fake plants look outdated in terms of tank design. Can't go to the...

    Today's a new day.

Hi everyone, it's Friday. The last cardinal tetra died today. He was lying on the floor and swimming erratically sideways. He had that for months and I didn't want him to suffer any longer, so I had to put him down in the freezer. :( A few weeks ago, a silvertip tetra died, but that was only...

    Today's a new day.

Haven't thought about it yet. The ANGFA conference is in September, not July. I might be going to Cairns, but haven't thought about it yet. Graduation is in September. In other news, apparently our country is at the top of the medal count chart at the Olympics, ahead of China and the US. We...

    Today's a new day.

Today's Friday. The thin cardinal tetra had suffered for 3 days, and I can't let them suffer for a long time. I had no choice but to euthanise it by putting it in the freezer by myself. They didn't move at all, lied on the ground, didn't eat and gasped for air for over three days. Now it's just...

    Today's a new day.

It's Tuesday. Just saw one of the two cardinal tetra survivors living in the tank for a year and 7 months lying on the ground, still breathing. I did a water change last week. Did the usual schedule. I sometimes forget to do water changes when a fish dies because I may grieve over them and bury...

    Today's a new day.

Today's Saturday. 2 weeks off from posting, but a few things happened in my world. It's school holidays again. I also had my flu vaccine today. Protecting myself with the vaccine can totally help, but it takes weeks to put it in full effect. The tetras are okay. The plastic plants got a bit...

    Today's a new day.

It's Saturday. Just did a water change for the tetra aquarium. I just keep having breaks that last a week because I'm usually busy with my life. Measured the gap of the lid of the 5.5 gallon aquarium for the filter, and it's 46mm for the gap.
  35. elephantnose3334

    Today's a new day.

Weather died down a bit today (Friday), not much rain compared to yesterday night. I chose not go to Yallingup in fear that I may leave my tetras behind. Sometimes, holidays aren't the best decision when you have aquatic animals in the household. I just don't like getting drenched in normal...

    Today's a new day.

I thought threadfin rainbows interest you because they live in New Guinea and northern Australia. And there is also a Costa Rica aquarium for common mollies (not the balloon ones) and topaz cichlids too. The PFK magazine has some good themed aquariums. Rainbowfish are very interesting fish to...

Oh okay. In the February issue is Daisy's ricefish and the threadfin rainbowfish/peacock gudgeon aquarium (something you're interested about). The PFK magazines come late because of shipping costs from the UK to the store in Garden City. The next issue is probably March, which is way behind than...
