I’ve rehomed, checked the guy was a suitable home and he’s got a 5ft and other big fish so he’s pretty experienced. It’s worrying pets at home are still trading as they’re telling people they’re suitable for community and 4ft tanks.

I'm aware of that, I don't want to soften water as large majority of my tank are hard water species. I may well get a second tank in the future and swap a few things over but for now they'll have to stay put

Most people will put them in hard water anyway, the average fish keeper don't even bother with forums and just take the shop owners word.

Yeah that's sad, the store keeps them in hard water also so atleast they're no worse off. In the future I'll avoid such fish.. Well wasn't me this time but..

I'd have to disagree, although a bit aggressive I find the black skirts to have a bit of character, constantly squabbling amongst each other and flairing fins at each other to make themselves seem bigger. 🤣 haven't witnessed them bother the other fish yet

Yeah I've got super hard water and made the mistake of buying Tetras, I was actually expecting them to die off first but they seem the happiest/healthiest
