Newly cycled tank - floating white particles?

It seems to be one of those phenomena that could be lots of very different things! The water quality itself doesn't seem to be affected, I just want to make sure it's not some toxic substance. The plants don't seem to mind it thus far... Thanks so much again for your input, I really do...

Newly cycled tank - floating white particles?

Thank you so much for your reply - yes, it does come with ceramic rings. We gave all the media a thorough rinse when we set up the filter three weeks ago, and these particles are relatively new (at least in their current concentration - haven't noticed them before), so not sure whether that...

Newly cycled tank - floating white particles?

Ah sorry - canister filter, Fluval 207, containing all media that comes with it, which I'm pretty sure includes carbon. I'm thinking that we should possibly have removed the carbon given that we're trying to run a planted tank, but don't want to start messing about with the filter until it's had...

Newly cycled tank - floating white particles?

Thanks to the lovely people here (who amongst other pointers have highlighted the importance of reading all instructions 😆)I now have a tank that has completed its first few nitrogen cycles and is showing 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite within 24 hours of a 3ppm dose. I'm continuing to keep the ammonia...

No ammonia registering after more than 48 hours?

So my ammonia is 2ppm 🤭 And I am a total plonker 🤭🤭 I only read the instructions for the pH - just assumed the process would be the same for all solutions and that they supply two ammonia and two nitrate because that's something you are likely to be checking more frequently.... No nitrite (at...

No ammonia registering after more than 48 hours?

Thanks all so much for your replies! I've tried both ammonia test solutions in the API kit, and neither is detecting any ammonia (even in an ammonia-only tube!). The API test kit seems to be working at least in part, as it picked up the pH in our tap water as well as detecting a different pH...

No ammonia registering after more than 48 hours?

I think I might have a no-ammonia ammonia problem :S Started fishless cycling 125 litre (c.29 gallon) tank on Sunday with 2.7 Fluval canister filter. Added 5 1/2 ml of Dr. Tim's ammonia solution along with Tetra Safe Start nitrifying bacteria (and treating the water with Seachem Prime)...

    Hello!

Thank you so much. Yes, will definitely be recording this in a journal - fingers crossed for a happy story! Absolutely this! I know a lot of people have them, but popular doesn't necessarily mean bad ;) . Re. the water here - it's 6.8 pH out of the tap so relatively soft, and I have some...

    Hello!

Hi there, I'm a total newbie, just taken delivery of a Juwel Rio 125 in which we hope to keep some tropical freshwater fish. We've been discussing it for several years so I've done a reasonable amount of research - am ready to do a fishless cycle and will absolutely not add any fish until both...

    Remove Juwel Filter Box

Hello! I've just taken delivery of this tank (so it's completely new and empty) and was all prepared to take out the internal box - have bought a Fluval canister filter to use instead. The only thing that's concerning me is the heater - it looks like this is supposed to slide inside the filter...
