High ammonia - what else to do?

Actually, looking more closely, they dont even look like spots, almost like something's hanging or detaching from the fishes scales

High ammonia - what else to do?

Do these ones help? I don't think I can get any better pictures than these 😅 I first suspected of ich, because I already had a case of ich in my tank about a couple months ago. However I didn't add any new fish to the tank recently and the spots in this swordtail are a little diferent from...

High ammonia - what else to do?

Well, I just got home from the weekend and one of my female swordtails is with a terrible aspect. She has some kind of fungus like material near her anal fin, and it's covered in some kind of white spots (similar to ich). Is this due to the ammonia problem or am I having some other thing going...

High ammonia - what else to do?

I used to have gravel in this tank, but then my corydoras started to appear with wounded whiskers and I read that sand is the best substrate to have with corys.

High ammonia - what else to do?

How long would've been a good period, in your oppinion?

High ammonia - what else to do?

No problem, it's a commum misunderstanding 😅 I'll look into this as soon as I get home! I did not, but I kept the 2 filters running simultaneously for about a week... maybe it was a short period of time for the beneficial bacteria to grow in the new filter(?)

High ammonia - what else to do?

Thanks for the tip. I'll be away from home for the weekend. I'll try to search for them in some new stores where I'm going and if I don't find anything I'll do what you suggested. The plastic wasting really bothers me but oh well, if there's no other option...

High ammonia - what else to do?

I don't think is a dead fish. I keep a close count of the fish in my 2 tanks and all of them are (still) alive.

High ammonia - what else to do?

The pH is always around 6-7. Currently at 6. What's worrying me the most is their gills, who looks a little too pink/red

High ammonia - what else to do?

I did, it had been running for about 3weeks to a month before I added these fish. But I recentely upgraded the filter. I kept the old filter in simultaneously with the new for a week. Maybe I should've keep it longer?

High ammonia - what else to do?

I'm using the JBL pro aquatest. For about 6 months. But I recentely upgraded the filter. Sera Aquatan, the most commum in my area. Yes I did, and I mentioned it in the original thread. It has 0ppm on ammonia

High ammonia - what else to do?

Thank you so much for your answer. My tank has been running for about 6months now. I recentely changed the filter to a better one, though. I'm from Portugal, actually. I've never seen Microbe-Lift in the stores here, but I can get it online easily. I usually use Sera Bio-Nitrivec. I'm in the...

High ammonia - what else to do?

Hi everyone! After all the trouble I've been trough with my tank, when I finally thought it was all going to be okay for a while, this happened in my 120L tank and I've run out of ideas of what I can do to solve it. I had a read of 5 ppm (probably more) of ammonia so I instantly searched in the...

    What are these ""eggs""?

Well, quick update. I don't know what they were, but they definitely weren't cory eggs. They just ended up kind of dissolving in the water.

    What are these ""eggs""?

Hmm I see where you're getting at! If it was indeed that what happened, it's kind of unfortunate that I only managed to save these 2 😅 Not a lot. It's only been for a couple days. I suspect she's about to give birth (thus the hipothesis of miscariage inicially) and she's looking for a safe...

    What are these ""eggs""?

I know the photo isn't the best, but I couldn't get a better one because they're so tiny 😅 In this tank I have C. aeneus. I've had cory eggs before and actually I'm suspecting that 3 of my females are about to lay again. I've been seeing them chasing each other around and they've been...

    What are these ""eggs""?

Hey there everyone! I just found this two little "balls" kind look like cory eggs but very yellow and i dont know what they are. They were sitting in that little space between the filter and the suckers. They were just floating in that little space. Does anyone know what these are? I have...

    Swordtails breeding - help?

That's amazing! I knew that some fish, such as clown fish, do have this "ability", I didn't know swordtails had it. Do you know what triggers this change? Is it the lack of males in a big group of females like in the clownfish?

    Swordtails breeding - help?

Damn... Now that I'm looking closely, I'm starting to believe you're right! At the petshop it looked like a female to me and was sold as such. I guess only time will tell.

    Swordtails breeding - help?

They are all around 6cm (2,3 inches). They are not as tiny as they look 😅 Either way, I was asking just to learn a bit more about them and be well pepared, not because I want them to start breeding already ^_^ Knowledge is never too much 😇

    Swordtails breeding - help?

Hi everyone! So, I'm really new to this species, I recently added 5 to may tank (1 male and 4 females) for the first time. I did a little research about the conditions to breed them and watched some videos about it aswell, however some doubts remained. The things that is bothering me the most...
