    Worried Discus might have worms

If I move him to the quarantine, do you think the stress level of being alone and in a new environment could potentially be more risky to his health? I have had some fish die when I move them to quarantine, but usually because they were already in life-threatening condition. Do you think the...

    Worried Discus might have worms

if the others weren't doing so well, I wouldn't notice anything about him, but I just wanted to make sure he is ok before he potentially gets worse

    Worried Discus might have worms

Hi everyone, I purchased 6 Discus about 5 weeks ago in my 75 gallon aquarium. Everything in the tanks is going well; the chemistry is good (pH: 6.5, hardness: 25, Nitrate: 5, carbonate: 20) and all fish are growing fast and healthy. But one discus, pictured below, seems to be a little skinnier...

How to make my tap water safe?

Thank you for the very informational replies! I do not add any additives or ferts to my planted tank and it things have been going smoothly so thanks for the reinforcement. I will do more water changes to maintain the GH, I have not done one is some time since there are very few fish in the tank.

SOS betta sick I think HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If ammonia is present, then the tank is not cycled. Do a major water change but be certain the water is the same temp as the tank and that you dechlorinate it. Hope he feels better!

    Water-change killed my fish??

Yes I agree that I should continue testing. Sorry I know I sounded a little trigger-happy to put the discus in the tank and I am not planning on getting them until I am certain water fluctuations will occur. The tank has been set for 6 months, nitrate generally at 0 (although admittedly the bio...

    Water-change killed my fish??

Thanks you!! This was really helpful. Sadly, upon reading this, I believe I have many of my fish have died from chlorine. I think I just jumped so headfirst onto all the aspects of water chemistry that I failed to fully address chlorine/chloramine. Have you ever heard of larger fish being more...

How to make my tap water safe?

Right now my tap water has the water parameters: Total hardness (GH): 25 Nitrate: 0 Nitrite: 0 Cl: 0.5 Carbonate (KH): 15 pH: 6.4 And my tank: Total hardness (GH): 50 Nitrate: 0 Nitrite: 0 Cl: 0 Carbonate (KH): 20 pH: 6.4 As you can see I have very acidic water that isn't to chlorinated. In my...

    Water-change killed my fish??

I agree, I am sure that conditioning water in a separate container is safer and I will look into that more, but for now I would really like to get my "python" water change system working (the reason I am quoting python is because it is actually just hose and a filter inlet siliconed together)...

    Water-change killed my fish??

Thank you everyone for all of the feedback! I agree that it was probably something with the tap water. I think I am misunderstanding how to best dechlorinate the water as it comes into the tank. Does dechlorinator have somewhat long lasting properties? Should I add the dechlorinator before...

    Water-change killed my fish??

Hi everyone, This actually happened a few months ago, but I need to resolve this issue before I purchase and new fish. My 75-gal planted aquarium was thriving with 3 kuhli loaches, 8 corydoras, 10 rummy-nose tetras, 2 apisstogrammas, and 2 bamboo shrimp. About a week after adding the most...

What's happening to my Lemon Tetras!? Disease?

Ok thank you for the helpful feedback! I think you guys are probably right about the tank not being cycled being the problem. The Lemon Tetras were used to an "extremely" planted and established aquarium where I am sure the water quality was good. Putting them into the large tank where nitrite...

What's happening to my Lemon Tetras!? Disease?

I use Tetra AquaSafe Plus by the way. And the chlorine content in my water is very low. Is chlorine actually dangerous to fish? I though it just destroyed beneficial bacteria populations?

What's happening to my Lemon Tetras!? Disease?

Ok, I will do a water change right now. The tank was not fully cycled but I thought I could keep on top of the water changes to keep nitrite and ammonia at zero. I wasn't able to test for ammonia but sounds like it is good news that my pH is low! Is nitrite at 1 mg/L actually lethal?

What's happening to my Lemon Tetras!? Disease?

Hey everyone, I have had 10 lemon tetras in a 20 gal quarantine tank for about three months while I was setting up their 75 gal. They were completely healthy in there and grew a ton! Then, about 4 days ago I finally moved them into the big tank. The big tank had only been set up for about 2...

    Norman's lampeye

They are a really pretty fish, but sadly I have heard they are pretty boisterous. They bother each other a lot in their school so you need a large school. With other tetra it might work but I think they might be to aggressive to the guppy fry. I would suggest small, peaceful tetras like...

Serpae Tetra (Red Minor Tetra) Compatibility: Aggressive or Community?

Wow, really informative post @Bryon ! Sounds like they can be kept in a community setting, but only with other, fast-moving, hardy fish. The lemon tetras are already a little boisterous so I think I will get a more peaceful tetra like rummy-nose instead. Thanks for the help!

Serpae Tetra (Red Minor Tetra) Compatibility: Aggressive or Community?

Hey guys, Has any one kept Serpae Tetras? I was wondering if they would be compatible in a 75 gal with: -Lemon tetras -Appisstogramma Agasizzi pair -Bolivian Rams -Discus -Corydoras I am most worried about the apisstos and the tetras getting all the food before the Discus. The only fish I have...

    Apisstogrammas Flaring At Their Reflection

No it is like 28". Like I said it is a temporary tank and both the apisstos and rummy nose would only be in there for a couple weeks.

    Apisstogrammas Flaring At Their Reflection

No worries, I believe it is 2 feet long (it's a 20 gallon) but the tank is just a temporary quarantine tank so I don't want to get any fish that won't be going in my 75 gallon. The fish I am planning on getting are rummy-nose, Sterbai Cory or some other Cory that can go in warm water, kuhli...

    Apisstogrammas Flaring At Their Reflection

Yeah, it is really intriguing to me how we can recreate natural scenarios in the aquarium. @Avel1896, the rummy-nose would be in their only temporarily until they are moved to the 75 gal with the dwarf cichlids. I could do Corydoras instead but I don't know if they would be as effective...

    Apisstogrammas Flaring At Their Reflection

Ok, so sounds like dither fish might be a good idea, and flaring won't be harmful to them? They are Apisstogramma Agasizzi. I picked them up from Petco, they were free since someone had given them in. I put them in a quarantine tank and I am not sure if they are actually a pair. Aside from the...

    Apisstogrammas Flaring At Their Reflection

Ok thanks for the input. It is just a pair in a 20 gallon tank (they will eventually be moved to the 75 gallon). How should I distract them/remove the reflections? I will probably get 10 rummy nose on Saturday, will these solve the problem?
  36. quinnARIUM

    Apisstogrammas Flaring At Their Reflection

Is this okay? I don't know if it will cause stress or if it is just a good outlit for aggression. I don't have any dither fish yet so I didn't know if it would be a good distraction for them or not.

    How to Breed Sterbai Corydoras???

Hi everyone, I have a 75 gal tank I would love to get some Corydoras for. It will be at 82-84 degrees F so I probably get Sterbai Corydoras. However I would really like a big school and I noticed their relatively high price. I have a 20 gal tank that I can pretty much modify in any way and I was...

    Warm Cories (Not the Sterbai?!!)

Also, if no there Corydoras (besides C. Sterbai) that can be kept at this temperature, what does the breeding process look like for C. Sterbai? Is it realistic to breed some in a 20 gallon tank? How long will it take?
  39. quinnARIUM

    Warm Cories (Not the Sterbai?!!)

Ok. Someone at a pet store suggested panda Corydoras, Adolfi Corydoras, and bronze Corydoras. None of these would be suitable for 80 degree and warmer water?

    Warm Cories (Not the Sterbai?!!)

Hi everyone! I am planning on purchasing a school if 6 to 10 corydoras for my 75 gallon. Right now the temp is about 78 degrees Fahrenheit, but I will gradually raise the temperature to 82-84 degrees in preparation for the Discus I will eventually add to the tank. Now, of course I want Sterbai...
