    Will Popeye medication kill shrimp?

It doesn't say anything about shrimp on the box I've just seen people online advising not to because they're not sure. Ingredients: Formaldehyde, Broponol, Benzalkonium. It's my first issue with any of my fish so I'm trying to fix it as quickly as I can. Its my second tank and is much smaller...

    Will Popeye medication kill shrimp?

I need to treat my betta for Popeye, I’m doing water changes every few days and need to treat him but I don’t have a hospital tank and online it says not to use the medication in a tank with shrimp. If I take him out and use the treatment in a separate container will it still work? This is what...

I’ll swap to weekly and do a slightly larger percentage as well. He’s just in a salt bath now 🤞🏼

    Betta looks depressed

I’ve been keeping fish for almost two years and I’ve never had any issues with my fish before, I’ve got a 25gal and 5gal. But my 5gal is my newer tank I set up specifically for this betta. Obviously I’m not doing the partial changes enough so I’ll start weekly changes immediately. I see what...

    Betta looks depressed

I do every other week because I’ve been told that’s what I needed to do. I’ll do weekly though if I need to. What pollutants cause it if it’s not something I can test for? Also I already did a water change yesterday. And you’ve not actually said what treatment you recommend other than doing a...

    Betta looks depressed

Hello can I have a bit of advice please 😊 my betta has been looking a bit depressed over the last couple of weeks. I have to admit I haven’t been testing the water regularly because I never have any issues with nitrate/ nitrite/ ammonia. But I’ve just tested and im pretty sure the KH and GH is...

    Mixing corys

Thanks for taking the time to reply this is really helpful! I can understand the issue with polluting the gene pool however as long as I don't give any to anyone else and they stay in my tank i assume its ok. I'll have to see what my local fish sellers have and try to get some as similar as...

    Mixing corys

I know groups of 6+ of the same species is necessary for corys but I’ve recently lost two of my black fin corys and can’t seem to find black fins anywhere! Is there any that are similar enough to put in the group? Should I jus try to get some that are the same size if I can’t find replacements...

Fluval plant & shrimp substrate - layer of dirt over everything?

Just siphoned a lot of it out so obviously it’s disturbed the substrate again and now everything’s dirty again 😭

Fluval plant & shrimp substrate - layer of dirt over everything?

I’m glad yours sorted its self out! Looks worse today 😂 I’ll try give it a proper clean and leave it to settle again. My worry is the plants because it’s completely covering them

Fluval plant & shrimp substrate - layer of dirt over everything?

Sorry for the bad quality photo. I’ve set up a new 5gal tank using plant substrate for the first time. Everything in there looks gross and dirty. It’s been about a week since I planted it. The rocks were light and all the plants bright green before planting them kicked up all the dust and it...

Using established tank to set up new tank using sponge filter

I’ll keep a close eye on it. That’s really interesting, I hadn’t really thought about it that way. I’m guessing sponge filters aren’t really enough in tanks that don’t have real plants then.

Ok good to know. I’m planting it up this week.

Using established tank to set up new tank using sponge filter

I’ll keep testing. It should be ok once I’ve got my filter in though shouldn’t it? Yes it’s a 5gal tank. Set up a week ago and just waiting for the filter to be ready to go in then he can move in to the tank.

Using established tank to set up new tank using sponge filter

I can do 3 weeks no problem. In my current tank (105l/23gal) I do need water changes about every 2 weeks and that works well for me.

Using established tank to set up new tank using sponge filter

I’m setting up a new tank for a betta, have had the sponge filter I’ll be using in my established tank for a week now. How long do I need to leave a new sponge filter in my established tank to get enough of the beneficial bacteria before moving it to my new tank and putting my betta in? I don’t...

Two sponge filters, one air pump

I’m trying to get an extra filter running in my existing tank, ready to move into a new tank in a few weeks. I’m pretty sure it’s all set up correctly but the airs only going to one of the filters. Any ideas?

    Planted aquarium floors

I’ll try and find some of that thank you! He’s not got massive fins, I’d say average for a betta. But they do get tears sometimes and I just want him to be more comfortable so that’s why I’m moving him. I do want to go for a heavily planted tank for this one but I’m worried it will end up...

    Planted aquarium floors

Haven’t got anything for the new betta tank yet apart from the sponge filter so I can get that in my old tank for a few weeks. Okay I’ll just go with plants then. Ah ok, is there any substrate that you’d recommend for heavily planted tanks?

    Planted aquarium floors

I’m about to set up a small tank for my betta (currently thinking about a dennerle nano cube 20l) and would like some advice. My first question is what do you do about keeping the aquarium floor clean when it’s completely planted like in the picture below? I use a gravel vac on my current...

    Best snail for algae cleanup?

I have a 105l tank with ember tetras, corydoras and a betta (who will be moving into his own tank soon) and lots of shrimp. Id like to get some snails, ideally ones that help the tank a bit with algae etc. What types are peoples favourites? And how many would I need for a 105l tank?
