    Awesome shark pictures

Sharks are apex predators. You are actually better off them viewing you as a threat. But I get what you are saying. Just not worded the right way. ;)

    Awesome shark pictures

I grew up surfing in Northern California, live in maui now, so work on the ocean, surf, dive, play in the ocean. You learn to live with them. I’ve never had a scary encounter with a shark. And that includes to couple times I’ve seen a great white. Honestly, seals have chased me out of the water...

    Awesome shark pictures

Bull sharks also have a higher level of aggression due to more testosterone (or whatever that would equate to in a shark). Here’s a few pics I snapped: First 3 are white tips, last one is a tiger.

    75 gallon tank and stand

I’m actually planning on finishing it as a closed cabinet. Seeing that it’s in the house now it should look like a piece of furniture. I was gonna do shiplap, but seeing as that’s like 30-60 bucks a piece here I’m working out other options. I’ve never made a cabinet, so I don’t wanna spend big...

Sand Vs Gravel? Yes, this conversation again. Lol

I’ve started doing a mix gravel, sand, aquasoil. It works for me. My plants and fish seem to be happy with it. I like the looks of it.

    can I see your substrate?

I put a decent amount, some would say a lot. About 3-5”. This is just one of my tanks, but I have 4 others with just under or around the same amount. I also keep fish that are known diggers, so I like to give the something to dig. And I have plants, so I like to give their roots room to grow.

    75 gallon tank and stand

Well, it seems I have not kept anyone updated on how this tank was going. Unfortunately my flowerhorn died a few months in, I think it had a parasite that I didn’t catch in time, meds came in the mail a day after it passed. So now it is a happy home to my 3 parrots, rummynose tetras(13 but I...

    Help me choose my hardscape

Yeah it’s too much. If it were me I’d try to take that long piece with the curved end coming out of the top in pics 2 and 3, with the curve on a stack of rocks/substrate and the straight portion angled towards the top…. Something like that. (Terrible representation, but I hope it gets the idea...

    Tetra has black eyes

I don’t know how rare they are. I ended getting one in a group I bought a year or two ago. It’s black eyes kinda creeped me out. But where I’m at it’s the only one I’d ever seen.

    Tetra has black eyes

I looked it up, the black eye/red belly is a color variant. Look up ‘red belly x-ray tetra’. Just a different look to the x-ray, like albino.

    Tetra has black eyes

It’s a color variation of the x-ray/pristella tetra (Pristella maxillaris. And yes I had to look the scientific name up)

    New axolotl just got here

Luckily it was just the moving costs, the tank and materials I already had. I have frogbit in another tank that’s getting blown all around by the flow that I was thinking about moving over. But last time I put it in the axolotl tank it all just melted away. I assume it was from the colder water.

    New axolotl just got here

It’s been a while since I’ve been on the site in general. Long story short, gf and I had to move, I had to dismantle and sell off a few tanks. But was able to upgrade my axolotl tank in the process. He’s got a nice 40 breeder set up now. And he gets to live in the bedroom.

Don't be fooled by the beauty of the Red Tail Shark. You'll regret it.

I have mine in with smaller fish, it is a pretty heavily planted 55 gallon, so plenty of space. He’ll chase them around for a second or two every once in a while. But gets over it real quick. I don’t think he likes the torpedo shaped fish. I had him in with a school of zebra danio and they...

    Thoughts about lighting

A lot of the newer led lights have a ‘ramp up’ mode. That’s what all my lights are set to. Sunrise, afternoon sun, evening, night(gradually turns off)

    Feeding change

I used the seachem brand meds. It’s a 3 part mix. So with parasites, you’d use metroplex, focus (to bind the meds to the food), and garlic guard (to make the food/med mix taste better)

    Feeding change

Is the medication added to the food? Or is it just topical? Like added to the water? In my experience I was only able to treat worms successfully with it being added to the food. So they may still have the parasite. Which would explain why they aren’t eating.

    Where are the Hawaiian aquarists?

As a few others have touched on, it’s very expensive over here. If I owned my own place (houses average 1.2million) I’d have a sweet pond, but being a renter I don’t think the landlord would approve

    Axolotl tank plants

Yeah I have a light on the tank. It’s on 12 hours, on the lowest setting to keep it dim for the axolotl. And it’s a 20 gallon long that I keep about half full. Everything I’ve read online says they prefer the shallow water over deep.

    Where are the Hawaiian aquarists?

Hahah I’m in Hawaii. Maui, to be exact. There’s plenty of people out here. But since it’s so isolated and can’t really get things shipped in, unless you get all the proper permits, we all tend to stick to just Hawaii forums on Facebook and such. It’s so frustrating to see all the options you...

    Axolotl tank plants

Yup, but this one I wedged underneath a low overhanging rock in some of my decor, apparently it was too much.

    Axolotl tank plants

No worries. I’ll probably end up with another anubias anyway. Just cause options are extremely limited. If you look in the axie pic you can actually see the one that died in the background. I think I put the rhizome a bit too buried under the rocks I used to hold it down.
  38. FishNturt808

    Axolotl tank plants

I had 2 in. One of them died. But the other one seems to be doing good. I’m just looking at other ideas. See if I can come up with a little more variety. Edit: 2 anubias, not axolotls. Just the one axie. And he/she has been doing great.

    Axolotl tank plants

What type of plants do you guys use in your axolotl tanks? With only 5-6 inches of water I figure they gotta be something that can grow well partially out of the water. I already have a ‘lucky bamboo’, anubias, a couple small Java ferns. The frogbit I put in just can’t seem to get established...
