    Blue-green algae?

Soo I’ve been away for 2 weeks on holiday and have come back to a tank covered in this algae..I’m worried it’s blue-green algae and dangerous. Is it safe to clean out the tank? The fish are all okay still luckily!

Can I put fish in here? And if so what?

Okay I didn’t even think of shrimp!! I’ve never kept shrimp before though!

Can I put fish in here? And if so what?

Soo I’ve set up this tank with the idea of wanting a Betta fish in there but.. 1. I don’t think it’s big enough..even though it’s a 25L tank…plus now that my plants have gone crazy there’s even less room. 2. Even though the filter flow is adjustable and is on the lowest it still seems to have...

    Cycling a new tank

Okay thank you. I will top up the ammonia. I plan on putting just a lone Betta fish in there as it’s only a small tank, so hopefully there won’t be too much Ammonia strain!

    Cycling a new tank

25 litres, a mixture of real and fake, just a normal filter not an air pump one, it was a couple of weeks ago I started it and I added ammonia about a week ago which went up to 3ppm.

    Cycling a new tank

So I’m cycling a new tank, I seem to have a lot of Nitrites and Nitrates but no Ammonia. I need to add more Ammonia still to keep it going though right?

Do you keep the weird fibre stuff on the plants?

Thank you! Okay I’ll give it a go with the rest of the plants tomorrow. I just got scared haha.

Do you keep the weird fibre stuff on the plants?

So I got these plants yesterday and theyre coated (inside the pot) in this weird fibery-like stuff but it’s not like the usual coconut fibre I have seen before that you get in the Tropica plants. I don’t know whether I was meant to take it out the pot or not. I have zero experience with planted...

    Identify these fish?

Soo I actually did go back and get some after finding out what they were and doing some quick research. I have just seen your replies. I paid £3.50 per fish and got 4.

    Identify these fish?

I saw these really pretty little orange fish with blue eyes at the fish shop but they had no price card for them and no idea what they were! Does anyone know? I have done a bit of Googling but found nothing.

    Really old catfish?

Yeah this is the issue we actually don’t have a very good source for fish. The local shop is not the best, often dead fish in their tanks, riddled with Hydra and other pests. We don’t wanna introduce anything to a system that’s worked for so long. But the sand substrate is interesting I didn’t...

    Really old catfish?

Yes we call him Coriander because it sounds like corydoras haha. He has actually lived with a comet goldfish (who is almost the same age as me and I’m 23 ?) since my mum took him on. I have told my mum this is not ideal for either fish and have tried persuading her to get some friends for him...

    Really old catfish?

So, this catfish is roughly 10 years old. I got him when I was about 13 and my mum put him in her fishtank when he was the last fish left in my tank and I had lost interest in the hobby. We believe he is a corydoras and we have heard that their lifespan is like 5 years max? Is he some kinda...

    Dropsy?

The picture is of the fish in question haha! Okay I just thought as he had a pot belly and my tetra had it that it’s possible he could. I will look at some intestinal parasite meds then thank you! He did do a poop earlier and it was quite pale in comparison to my other fish.

    Dropsy?

Hi guys! So just over 5 weeks ago I moved a guppy that had a pot belly and a tetra that had pine coned scales into a quarantine tank. The tetra passed a few days later but the guppy is acting completely normal, eating still etc. He just has a bit of a belly. I’ve treated the tanks for internal...

    Hydra!

So while admiring my mums fish tank down stairs..noticed she has a few hydra. We got our plants from the same place so I went to check my tank and low and behold..have found about 4 in my tank so far all on my plants..I don’t plan to keep baby fish, snails or shimp, but I want to move fish in...

Help! - emergency water change during cycle!

Okay true. I’ll have to keep an eye on the nitrite levels then. If they continue to rise and don’t fall/nitrate isn’t going up I’ll stop with the frequent water changes.

Help! - emergency water change during cycle!

I might leave it a little while longer in that case. Or have a look and see if it is clogged up and if it is try to remove some. I think I will continue to do 50% water changes a couple of times a week and keep topping up the ammonia to where it should be at that stage in the cycle until I am...

Help! - emergency water change during cycle!

Okay, thank you. Yes I remembered to condition the water. Would you recommend cleaning out the filter too? (In some tank water obvs.) I haven’t touched the filter since setting the tank up. I’m worried they’re lurking in there..after a couple of minutes of watching the tank I’ve just seen...

Help! - emergency water change during cycle!

Hi! So I have had my tank cycling for a little while now- it’s a bit complicated, I had started it over 2 weeks ago ghost feeding but wasn’t able to get my ammonia levels up (like no ammonia at all no matter how much food I added but I was reading 1ppm nitrites which was weird.) So I got some...

    Cycle questions!

Have just tested- I would say it’s between the 2-4 range. Hard to tell in unnatural light. Now I have this level, do just test it daily and keep adding a little bit of ammonia each day to keep it at the 1-2 pp

    Cycle questions!

Okay I’ll test straight after! He’s so cute and is now named Gary. I will keep an eye on him if my levels get higher, thank you! He seems so be very happy snacking on all the old food in there right now lol. And he’s really fast moving!
