    FISH SWIMMING ERRATICALLY

Hi everyone. I have a female red velvet swordtail that I purchased 4 days ago(along with a male). She eats really, looks really well but sometimes swims super erratically. I've never seen this & I've had freshwater aquariums since I was a kid. This morning before I turned on the aquarium...

    Female platty or swordtail???

I have what I believe is a female red velvet swordtail. I bought a male & female pair yesterday. I've never experienced this with fish: She is swimming erratically and almost looks like she is doing flips at times but is eating and otherwise looks great. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

    High nitrates

I have a 20 gallon freshwater aquarium since september of '20. I have 2 angel fish, 1 red tailed black shark, 2 guppies & 1 algae eater. I also have 3 live plants & assorted artificial plants. Anyway my ph sits around 6.6, ammonia & nitrite are 0ppm but nitrates are 80 ppm or slightly higher. I...

    Adding beneficial bacteria

Is there such a thing as adding to much beneficial bacteria(tetra safe start) where it can be harmful to fish? I used the above product to help cycle my new aquarium. I was thinking when I get rid of my carbon filled disposable cartridge and add all foam to my bio wheel filter should I add...

    BENEFICIAL BACTERIA

Can I get this(tetra safe start)and add immediately? Will it harm my fish? Can I just put it in my bio wheel filter? Also im assuming the tank will eventually cycle on its own. Is this correct?

    BENEFICIAL BACTERIA

My aquarium is up and running for 2 months now. I have 9 fish in 20g(2 angels,4 mollies,2 guppies & red tailed shark). The tank, i believe, is still cycling(high nitrites & nitrates. My question is can I buy a beneficial bacteria product that I could add to the tank to speed up the cycling...

Water changes ammonia & nitrite levels at .25 or .5 levels

On so I just tested my water: ph-7.0, ammonia-0ppm, nitrite rose to maybe 1.0 ppm and nitrate is 0ppm. Does this mean things are getting better. What should I do now?

Water changes ammonia & nitrite levels at .25 or .5 levels

I'm assuming it hasn't completely cycled? Its been setup since september 30th. I started adding fish a week after this.

Water changes ammonia & nitrite levels at .25 or .5 levels

Most people probably know my story already. My tank has been running since september 30th of this year. I have 9 fish in a 20 gallon aquarium(2 anglefish, 4 mollies, 2 guppies & red tailed black shark). Anyway I've been testing my water quality and have slight ammonia & nitrite levels. Would it...

Ok thanks. So its best to take out carbon filter now? Run the black foam filter till it falls apart?

    TOTALLY BAFFLED & FRUSTRATED

Just bought this black big square piece of foam. Should I cut it to fit my filter and get rid of my carbon filled cartridge and run this only in back filter till it falls apart?

If I can't locate these black foam filters at my local pet shop. Would you be able to suggest something else?

    TOTALLY BAFFLED & FRUSTRATED

Can I buy these items at most pet shops? Also what colors are available?(white im assuming). So I should stay away from filters that I already filled with carbon that need to be changed(according to package) every 4-6 weeks? Can I replace immediately?

    TOTALLY BAFFLED & FRUSTRATED

So basically stop using my disposable pre filled blue filters and replace them with black foam filters asap? I watched the above video that was sent to me. Also can I add a round foam filter to where the tube socks up the water for even better results?
  32. S

    TOTALLY BAFFLED & FRUSTRATED

I'm sorry I'm alittle confused. So I shouldn't "just use" the foam filter? The ones I have already are filled with carbon(above pic). So should I use both simultaneously? Also my nitrite & ammonia levels are they dangerous?
  33. S

    TOTALLY BAFFLED & FRUSTRATED

This is what I currently use. So a black foam filter is better?
  34. S

    TOTALLY BAFFLED & FRUSTRATED

So the carbon filled filters are not as good as just a plain foam filter?
