    Angelfish making sounds, and sexing

Awesome! Thank you!! I had no idea that any fish vocalize until I tried to find an answer searching online. I find it all to be AMAZING! Thus far it has only been that one, at least that I've seen. It being a male, it definitely makes sense that it's a dominance thing. The other two larger...

    Angelfish making sounds, and sexing

Thank you for your reply! I am completely fascinated by this!! I would really love to know if anyone else has ever heard a freshwater angel "vocalize", or any other species of fish for that matter?! Sorry, I haven't been able to get the sound recorded, yet. I am working on that though. As I...

    Possible illness(es) freshwater angelfish

Thank you for your reply. I totally understand all of that. I've been telling my husband the same thing about the stress and limited space. I've tried arranging things so there are breaks in sight lines, and more places to hide behind. But I've been seriously considering re-homing the largest...

    Possible illness(es) freshwater angelfish

I've known since I was young that Cichlids are aggressive, I guess because I've not previously had, nor been around, a tank with more than two, and/or only angels in the tank, I haven't seen this kind of "damage". I will say the aggression can be rather daunting and startling for one not used to...

    Angelfish making sounds, and sexing

Hi all ☺ I have have been scouring the web trying to find anything I could about this phenomena, and I have found precious little information. I have a 55 gallon, all angelfish (6), 1 ivory mystery snail, 2 nerites, and several plants. Well for the last couple of months I've been hearing a...

    Possible illness(es) freshwater angelfish

Thank you for this, I will make sure to get your instructions written down and keep with all of my tank supplies. That way I will always have it, and if for some reason someone else ever has to do that type of maintenance on my tank, or their own, they will have access also. ☺ I actually took...

    Possible illness(es) freshwater angelfish

Thanks so much for the replies! Yes the spots on the fish are what's concerning me. I had a feeling at least some was from the fighting. I just wanted to try and catch anything as early as possible, if of course there is something. I have been watching them Very closely thru the day, and it...

    Possible illness(es) freshwater angelfish

Hi all, it's been a while since I've been on the forums. I finally was able to get my 55 gallon set up, only took me like 5 months, lol. I have only fw angels, 3 juveniles, and now 3 adults, 1 ivory mystery snail - around a quarter's size, and 2 very small nerite snails. (Though I can only find...

    Upgrading to larger tank...

Thank you so much everyone for all of the information, ideas and advice! It's all greatly appreciated, to be sure! So glad I found this gem forum, I see I'm going to learn a lot here. :-)

    Upgrading to larger tank...

I'm going to look into that Walstad method. I would be content with just my Angels in the tank. Though I will need to get at least one more female. The three I have I purchased together. They were about the size of a quarter at the time. Here we are a few months later, and they are a nice size...

    Upgrading to larger tank...

Thanks! I do have and use a python for my large water changes, or for a new set up. I have a smaller gravel vac I use for the small changes, and just use a tote for taking away the old water. I always add my water treatment directly to the new water in my exclusive fish bucket, and swish the...

    Upgrading to larger tank...

Thank you! Wonderful suggestion of keeping decor and some substrate for a couple of weeks! I will definitely do so. And after the couple of weeks, I can change the plastic plants and decor out a little at a time. And some point on down the line, I will add a couple of fish, too. ..... I'm not...

    Upgrading to larger tank...

Wow, that seems like A LOT of work, depending on tank sizes. Even if they are small. I have to say, the fact you've had hardly any disease or illness issues is intriguing. I haven't had a whole lot myself, and I only do small changes every week or two. And really, most of that is just for...

Thank you! Totally makes sense that it could shock the fish if the parameters are so different.

    Upgrading to larger tank...

Thank you! I love to watch nature at work! It's just so fascinating to me, all of the intricacies and nuances. Love to watch life find a way, even the little guys like the bacteria, they are all important to our world. I am of the thinking that anything over say 40% would equal a large water...

    Upgrading to larger tank...

Thank you! I don't generally do large water changes, unless really necessary. I try to let the tank work it out as much as possible. I do keep a pretty close eye on my parameters during that period though, just to be safe. What you are saying about the water changes makes perfect sense to me.
