Sorry, my apologies it's been a long day.

    Male Beta

Did you cycle your tank before putting the fish in there? Are you using tap conditioner when you put fresh water in? Also if they're both males they can be aggressive towards each other, and stress each other out, also 3 gallons is on the smaller side, especially with having two in there.

    Hydra?

I just took another look at Hydra, unless there's a variant I'm not seeing, it isn't a Hydra.
  4. Shiverz

    Hydra?

I really don't think they're hydra, their "stems" are way to stumpy and they seem to be less spindly. These guys are more like "fans" as opposed to a hydra's "tree" like look. I'll still be treating but I'll probably stick to a salt bath when Shoto has had time to adjust.

    Hydra?

I think it's a variant of vorticella apparently many others have had this species and struggled to identify it too. Though this is going off other peoples verdicts in other places from previous posts/reddits etc. I've added a picture from the webs which is pretty darn close to mine. My only...

    Hydra?

These guys don't move, they just sway in the water hence why my drunk self thought they were hydra when I first saw them

    Hydra?

Vorticella! Now I just need to know if these are harmful or not

    Hydra?

damned internet. (I should've known better) I'm pretty sure it's not a cyclops, I just took about loads of pictures and managed to get this.

    Hydra?

Their "tentacles" aren't as long as a hydra's and there seem to be a lot more of them (tentacles) too. They seem to bea lot smaller than Hydra's also, I've heard Hydra's can grow up to an inch? these are teeny. I can't find anything other than bryozoa that fits their description, I know they...

    Hydra?

Are the pictures good enough to establish what they are? their numbers seem to be increasing rapidly. I've added some Cattana leaves (not sure if I spelt that right) and a coconut shell to the tank. Which has really improved Shoto's wellbeing, though I have a feeling it's bolstered these...

    Hurricane Ida

Here in the UK we don't have any dangerous weather systems, I can't even begin to imagine what it's like going through it all. Though I am likeminded as you Slaphppy7. If there's a chance you might get caught, then get out of there, don't take the chance. Stay safe guys!

    Hydra?

I did a little digging last night, and I inspected the potential hydra a little further and I think I jumped to conclusions. Now with a sober mind on the case I believe that they are a form of bryozoa, as for the other smaller critters I have no idea. I apologise for the quality of the...

    Hydra?

I'm a little confused, not long ago my tank underwent some salt water treatment for an illness, yet, two weeks later I have hydra all along the bottom of my tank, they're roughly 1-2mm in size. I've also noted small white critters near the waters surface, though they're that small I can't...

I think my Betta is really ill

So, for any of those that may be interested in how Shoto is doing. I can say that he is doing a lot better, in fact he's pretty much back to normal Naturally a few things were caught and adjusted so it's unsure on what exactly was getting my little dude down. I heightened his tank temperature, I...

I think my Betta is really ill

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into them. I'm in the middle of moving and paying out over a thousand for the removal process alone, as little as a bottle of conditioner is, I just simply can't afford it right now, though knowing me I'll move something around and get that conditioner. I...

I think my Betta is really ill

I have to say this is brilliant, this should save me a lot of guesswork. I'm guessing that it takes into account the monitors light levels? I also have another update, or should I say another blunder on my side. I normally use a 10 litre bucket, it has indentations on what level is what litre...

I think my Betta is really ill

It was "fluff" I'll give you the link if you want to look into the matter further, but it didn't act like mucus there are some pictures on the first page showing this, but honestly I'm no photographer. All I can say is that I was advised to do a water treatment, so I did...

I think my Betta is really ill

Sorry I just missed this when I was replying. I think it's below 0.25ppm but not quite 0. Honestly like I said in my previous post I really struggle to tell the difference. To me depending on where I am standing, the test result could mean 0, 0.25 or even 0.5. I'm guessing that it's due to the...

I think my Betta is really ill

I'm using the API Master Test Kit, with Tetra Tap safe, though recently I saw in a thread that this is not exactly the best conditioner, so I will be changing over as soon as funds allow. Also I was going to change the water, but with my gammy hands I physically can't do it until my partner...

I think my Betta is really ill

Okay so this is an update for today. This morning I came down and Shoto swam up to me as he normally does so I was pretty happy, though within seconds he went back to his little rock shelter. The new thermometer arrived today, so I was able to get some decent read outs. My old thermometer is 2/3...

I think my Betta is really ill

Sorry for the double post. Reading my previous message back seems a little 'stand-offish'. Its nearly 1am here and I woke up to the replies so my brain wasn't working correctly. Sorry to you both if I seemed argumentative. As stated above, I'll check water temps tomorrow and adjust when I'm...

I think my Betta is really ill

Already adjusted the temperature slightly. Though to be honest I really don't trust the thermometer inside the tank. I ordered an electrical one which arrives tomorrow to double check. I did originally create a baffle. I shoved sponge in the spout, then got an acrylic tube, drilled holes into...

I think my Betta is really ill

Thank you for replying. It was a large post I know, I just felt it prudent to explain his behaviour, my apologies for making it so long. I changed the filter 10 days ago. I made sure to cut strips of media from my old filter, and implemented it into the new filter to help seed it. I did test...

    Back again

Welcome back, I'm afraid I don't remember you but from what you've said I wasn't here then! Damnn that's a mighty fine tank your step daughter is getting, It's to be asked, are you by any chance looking for a step-son? I'll be well behaved if you give me tanks haha! I'm joking of course...

I think my Betta is really ill

So for those that have been responding to my threads recently know two things. 1 - My fish Shoto recently tore his fin and some form of "fluff" grew on it, though this has been treated and is no longer an issue, though it's only been recently that his the last water change took place to remove...

    Second guessing for new filter

Yes you would be correct, it is indeed a male betta fish. I originally had floating plants, but I think the light was too close to them and was causing problems as they kept growing some form of algae/mould. I've put in the air filter, and although he was a bit dubious at the bubbles he seems to...

Moving betta from Soft to Hard Water?

I'm guessing the DI cartridge would be compulsory to reduce the overall GH too huh? oh well my drinking water can wait, as long as the fish is good all is well. I'll get reading up on the different RO/DI's now. It'll give me something to do with the night haha

Moving betta from Soft to Hard Water?

I was looking at something similar earlier on in the day, though granted it was nowhere near as complex as the one you sent, it was only one phase of filtering. I've found quite a few, some look fancier than others but I'll do research on which one to get. some are as low as 40 yet others are...

    Second guessing for new filter

That could be a good option, I will be keeping the internal, but I guess letting it dry out and having the bacteria die out would be a waste. I can always replace the sponge I'll get cutting now. Haha, I was brought up with it, my ol'mans favourite saying is "It cost me an arm and a leg"...

    Second guessing for new filter

It's sponge, nothing else is inside. My air filter has no further room with my air stone in it, so this too is simply sponge. My tank doesn't allow for HOB's. it's fully lidded. The only HOB that would fit is one that I have for my 5 gal emergency QT tank. Plus, I already have the air filter...

If you could list the fish you want, it would help Byron further no doubt! :D

Uh oh I need help fast....

Honestly I think it would be fine if it's not severely off the charts. GH is more important than PH, I would say it's not a problem, but again I think that certain fish are exception to this rule, but a selection of the more "beginner friendly" fish seem to be hardy, and generally don't mind...
