    Our first tank

Glad to hear things have improved. 1) Ammonia and Nitrite should always stay at 0 in your tank. If you see any amounts of them a water change is required. You may see the Nitrate increase a little at times due to food and waste but this is mostly easily resolved with water changes. 2) No need...

    Our first tank

Here's what you should do: 1. Perform a big water change asap of 75% adding your tap water conditioner as always (there should never be a case where you dont add two water conditioner) 2. Wait 24 hours before adding Tetra safe start as the tap water conditioner can kill the safe start bacteria...

I can see your nitrite seems lower than it was before so that's a positive sign. Your nitrate seems to be around 20 so that's not bad either. Have patience and the cycle will work. I would strongly encourage you to do another 50%+ water change and add Tetra Safe Start to give your cycle a...

What I did was calibrated my inkbird based on two other thermometers i have that both showed the same result. Now all my thermometers are consistent so am happy with the inkbird.

    Green Algae Growth

My feiend feeds the fish every other day. Will ask her to switch to black gravel and get some plants as currently there are none. Thanks guys

    Green Algae Growth

Ok cheers buddy will give that a go. Only have light on for 6 hours a day so will cut it down to 2 hours and see. Doesn't that mean I will keep having a recurring problem though even after it fixes if light stays on longer? Perhaps some Otocinclus catfish will help?

    Green Algae Growth

So only have it on for 2 hours? Also, if so would that automatically reduce the algae or do I have to clean it out myself?

    Green Algae Growth

Hey Guys, My friend tropical tank seems to be getting loads of green algae growth on the white gravel as shown in photo. What is causing this and how do you best remove it? Don't want to have to take out all the gravel? Is it a bad idea to have white gravel? Would you recommend switch to...

@howard_hopkinson Hey mate, I bought the Inkbird ITC 307 as per recommendation and great device. I noted that after a while it always makes a little noise does that happen to you too? Maybe it's when it turns the heater on or something but not sure. I've set my temp at 26 with variance of...

    Our first tank

Sometimes this can be caused by stress due to sudden water temperature change or just sudden change of water or its parameters . Did you remember to add dechlorinator?

    Our first tank

My LFS is actually still open since people need to buy fish foods and medicine etc. So if you go grocery shopping could find one nearby or so.

    Our first tank

I actually cycled using Tetra Safe Start and immediately adding Danios and it worked a treat. Left them for 2 weeks and my nitrogen cycle was over. I know many people don't recommend this method on this forum but it worked a treat for me. Now I have around 60 fish in my 240L tank and a bunch...

    Our first tank

Danios are one of the best if not the best cycling fish. I started with them too as they're very hardy fish. They are super active and great fish to have in the tank anyways really bring it to life. Loach and catfish need a more mature tank with algae to graze on almost 24/7 lol! so getting...

    Our first tank

Haha that's true! I've only kept Male Guppies myself the female ones aren't so beautiful and colourful to me. Mollies I've got male and female so let's see what happens there haha. Issue with only males increases chance of fighting and nipping fins I guess

    Our first tank

Aside from the catfish/loach recommendations for general fish I would stick some fancy guppies in the tank. Great fish for hard water and quite lively and beautiful to look at. Mixing diet between floating flakes and sinking pellets will ensure them and the Danios are fed. Could also stick in...

Molly Fish Stuck on Filter Inlet

Does it matter if I have different types of mollies? As I have some standard mollies and some silverfin and Dalmatian?

Molly Fish Stuck on Filter Inlet

I know guys and thanks. New to the hobby had no idea of such a thing. Will go on Monday when it opens up and get 3 more females so I have the 3:1 ratio. Appreciate the help

Molly Fish Stuck on Filter Inlet

I had 3 females and 3 males so now down to 2 males. Guess that could be the underlying reason? Though I never ever witnessed it fighting or anything always seemed in peace .

Molly Fish Stuck on Filter Inlet

It was a male buddy. Guess it just wasn't well since my other mollies and fish all seem very happy.

Molly Fish Stuck on Filter Inlet

Added to the tank about 1 month ago. I added it alongside 3 other mollies.

It's quite hard water 292ppm. It's a Fluval 240 litre tank buddy. I have 6 other mollies who are all fine.

    Amazing Algae Eater

I've tried feeding my otocinclus some Hikari Algae wafers and they just don't realise it's for them and the other fish end up getting them lol. How do I go about making them realise it's algae for them?

Molly Fish Stuck on Filter Inlet

Thing is my water parameters are perfect I have no ammonia or nitrites and Nitrates at 20. Yesterday the fish was completely fine and eating all the food. Not sure what went wrong...maybe just a natural death?

Molly Fish Stuck on Filter Inlet

Hi Guys, My Molly fish this morning I woke up and was stuck to the filter inlet. I released it but now it's struggling swimming looks like it will die soon. I have a Fluval 307 Canister which is quite a strong inlet as it cycles 1150Lph. Is the filter too strong so I should put some sponge...

Haha that would be chaos. My python no spill would come in handy for sure if I had to keep changing water easy in and out haha. Where have you fit 13 tanks!? I have one 63 gallon tank and seems like a full time job lol!

In giving it a miss. Don't think I need it tbh as London hardly has heat lol What is the best plan if there was to be a heatwave and aquarium temperature rises?

Ah right makes sense. My house is always around 20 degrees so no issue for me. Will stick to one with the inkbird system and keep a spare handy.

    Best Thermometer

Ah right makes sense. Mine is 63gallons and my fish are worth over £300 so probably well worth an investment for me. Ordered a spare heater too as I didn't have any in case my current Fluval 300w heater dies. Do I really need a heater on both side of the tank or do you think one is alright?
  37. S

    Best Thermometer

Guess that resolves the issue of one heater turning off but what if one heater stays on past the heating point and doesn't turn off? I think in this instance InkBird would be great to cut the electricity in the switch to turn it off.
  38. S

    Best Thermometer

I'm getting inkbird too now since I'm worried my heater could break one day and I'd never know unless i noted the thermometer. Great idea getting digital ones for water changes.

Ah right nice one. I'll get a spare heater too asap then. Which fan do you use for such a big tank?

Have you had to take the lid off to put the fans in? Thinking I should add fans and get an additional heater too but don't want the lid off.
