    So.. many.. filters!

Great point Gary! most of the fish in my tank are Amazon river fish, and the plants and scape is not a biotape but I’ve tried to include more plants and aesthetics from this region, and there’s definitely no way il get to the level of flow the fish would naturally find, so I’m sure as much flow...

    So.. many.. filters!

Also, if I do need the 600, potentially 2 x Fluval 307s would work out cheaper and offer more flow

    So.. many.. filters!

So I’ve been using an APS 1400ef for a couple years on my 180Litre long planted tank. It’s heavily planted, no co2, and pretty well stocked, done a job and flow has always seemed ok, despite a couple dead spots lower down in the tank , but gets far too clogged too quickly, and as a result SO...

    BBA attack!

hey guys! Never had BBA before in any of my tanks. But went for a long weekend away and came back to find my aquarium light broken. Had to order another so the tank had very minimal light for about a week. A lot of my microsorum trident melted away, which sucked because it was in abundance and...

Getting tank back to full health!

Thanks guys, starting to get the algae under control I think, removed a lot of the floating plants, started making more of a routine for dosing, cleaned and replaced filter sponges and regular water changes. Parameters are all back to where they usually would be, but yesterday I lost a Cory and...

Getting tank back to full health!

Sorry you have been too! Sure I’ll add a few photos of the tank so you can see what it’s currently looking like. I think maybe there’s a lack of co2. The stem plants at the back of my tank are usually much larger leafed and display much more vivid colours, more orange and red, but they look a...

Getting tank back to full health!

Also, could it be possible there is a parasite in the water/fish causing the cloudy eyes/fin issues - one of the fish also has a sunken belly. So I would hate for a parasite to be ravaging through the entire tank!

Getting tank back to full health!

Hey guys, So I’ve been unfortunately pretty unwell for a few months , and was unable to manage my aquarium , had family members doing the general feeding and water top ups for me but now I’m back home, I now see my tank is not in a good way; bba growth I’ve never had in any of my tanks before...

New 10 Gallon scape - recommendations!

Thanks Slaphppy! I will make sure to take them off the list! I’d hate to lose any from them leaping out! I’ve lost a neon rainbow from that once, and luckily, once managed to catch a Corydoras that jumped out after I accidentally startled him!

New 10 Gallon scape - recommendations!

Those wee rectangular pieces, they’re small stands for the tank. They are stuck on each corner to raise the bottom of the tank ever so slightly. The tank actually had foam under it anyway so they aren’t really doing anything tbh

New 10 Gallon scape - recommendations!

Wow thanks so much Byron for such a comprehensive list and breakdown for what could work! I really appreciate it! I have always loved cories and their personalities so a big group of the dwarf variety would be really fun to watch. I’ve not kept pencilfish or hatchetfish before so both would be...

New 10 Gallon scape - recommendations!

Thanks Byron! It’s 80cm long - it’s sold as a turtle tank believe it or not. I don’t see a turtle staying small enough to live in it very long though. The substrate is sand yeah. And the water ppm is 18.7 according to my water supply company’s data.

New 10 Gallon scape - recommendations!

I always wonder about whether they’d jump out haha or how good they are at climbing. I’d hate for them to climb up the wood and get out 😂 that’s awesome though!

New 10 Gallon scape - recommendations!

Thanks for the plant reccomendations I’ll give those a source and see if they’ll work! Ooh I hadn’t ever thought of Killifish, I know they’re abit harder to find (or atleast my lfs doesn’t have them), but that could be cool!

New 10 Gallon scape - recommendations!

Thanks so much! Ah no I used to have it about an inch from the top and that was 15 gallon, but I don’t trust the sealant or glass to really hold that much water anymore, it’s not the thickest glass in the world, so filling it to where it is now it’s 10gallons.

New 10 Gallon scape - recommendations!

Hey guys, thought I’d share my new 10 gallon scape I’m working on and wondered if you had any recommendations on two subjects! First is for emergent plants that could live at the waters edge/creep up the wood, and up high out of the back. Ideally I’d love to have the full back of the tank...

Sick Bolivian ram - sunken belly and cloudy eyes

I’m sorry to hear that! We’re yours a Bolivian aswell or the Electric Blues/Germans? I heard Bolivian are hardier and less aggressive/picky with water temp which is why I chose them. They’ve been great and my water parameters are always the same - got quite a nice balance with them and water...

Sick Bolivian ram - sunken belly and cloudy eyes

Hey guys, I have a pair of Bolivian ram in my community tank. Had them over a year but last few weeks I haven’t seen the female much. I eventually have and notice she’s got a sunken belly and cloudy eyes. Because she’s been hiding I haven’t seen her poop, but manages to catch her and try feed...

    15Gal Blackwater scape!

Hey Byron! Yes the betta is a male. The Pearl and Betta seem to be getting on ok in the large tank at the moment, possibly because of the larger size and swimming space, and maybe because the Pearl is relatively young, but I want to split these up as a priority as I know this could and will...

    15Gal Blackwater scape!

So I’m at the beginning of starting a new scape, in my currently empty 15Gal long tank and for this one I want to go Blackwater! Sand is in, Hardscape on the way and I can start the scaping side of things, and have plenty of almond leaves to go in. I’ll be adding some plants, but not many -...

Vote Now - August 2022 Tank of the Month Contest (31 gal & larger)

Seeing some of the other tanks entered this month I wasn’t going to enter.. man they are all stunning. In comparison here is my pretty dirty newly scaped 200L tank. Broken down due to moving home and since the house move was a delayed nightmare on the day, unfortunately the filter...

    Moving house and tank tips

Quick query Colin, due to a family funeral im having to leave my place for a few days, before I move home properly next Monday. Because I don’t think I’ll have time to break down both my tanks when I come back from the funeral I was hoping to do my smaller one today, and the main big one on...

    Moving house and tank tips

Awesome thanks for this Colin! I can easily source some boxes and I have a few spare air stones n pumps so that’s good to know I can keep them in there for a couple of days or so if needed.

    Moving house and tank tips

Thanks Colin, this is helpful. One thing that I’m most worried about is how long I could keep the fish in bags/buckets whilst I rebuild the tank. The odds are I won’t be able to have it rebuilt and ready for the fish to go in on the same day as I move it.

    Moving house and tank tips

Hey guys, as the title suggests I’m moving home soon, in about 6/7weeks, and I have a 200l community tank and a smalller nano tank that I’ll need to move. Both are heavily planted and really, I’m stressed out just thinking of how I’m going to break down the tanks, remove the plants, catch and...

    APS 1400 flow rate

Hey guys I have an APS 1400ef canister filter for my 180litre long tank. It does an amazing job at cleaning the tank but, one thing I was wondering is if this flow seems abit too high for a Pearl Gourami, as I was looking to add one to the community. So far the rest of the tank include more...
