    Oscar fish

Didn't you also mention that you did a large water change to get nitrates down? The sudden clean water can sometimes shock the fish if they have become accustomed to dirty water with high nitrates.

    Rainbow shark tank size

55 gallons would be the minimum for ONE rainbow shark on its own, NO tankmates. If you can't afford a tank big enough for the species of fish that you want to keep, then you shouldn't be keeping that species. Research, research, research!!!! Size, temperament, and preferred parameters are also...

    0 to 1 female bettas.

    Female betta companions?

Bettas are a solitary, territorial species that prefer no tankmates. If she was like that with an amano, then she has likely now claimed the new tank as her territory and won't tolerate anything else in her space. Not to mention, the tank is far too small for tankmates.

    What are you doing today?

Getting lost in Elden Ring for half an eternity and then doing some pre-lab assignments for school. Oh, and a water change!

    Bloated Betta

She's very swollen and chunky, so she was likely getting too much food. Dried bloodworms are also not a good staple food for bettas because they have little nutritional value and expand in the stomach which can cause bloat/constipation issues. What size tank is she in? How often do you change...

black, white, blue, or no background at all for betta tank

You could try covering only the back with black and use plants to block his reflection from the inside. By that, I mean placing some tall, dense plants (real or silk) close to the sides of the tank.

    Moving fish tank?

I prefer to empty the tank as much as possible. I remove my fish first and place them in a 5 gal bucket with tank water. Then I take care of the tank stuff (moving, cleaning the substrate, filling it half with new water) then I add the fish and half the old tank water back. Boom. Done.

    Elk hunting pictures

That used to happen all the time in the National Park the elk photo was taken. That same bull regularly chased off tourists and cars that got too close to him/his ladies. Mess with the bull you get the horns/antlers lol.

Thank you! Right? Such a magical place, it's even better the further away from town you get. This is what I'm working to get back to after I get my degree. I belong in the mountains :P

They are used for wagon rides up to the steak fry site. The photo was shot in front of the barns of the ranch I worked at the time. :)

Defintiely! During rutting season they tend to come really close to town to collect females.

    Would anyone be interested.....

Awesome! No, you wouldn't be under any time constraints or pressure. I'm way ahead of schedule with the profile and the project that it's a part of. I would really appreciate it if you could. I'll probably have it done by tomorrow or Monday. :) They are interesting snakes for sure, but the...

    Would anyone be interested.....

In reading the rough draft of my species profile for Storeria occipitomaculata (red-bellied snake)? Once I'm finished writing it of course. I would just love to get some thoughts and opinions on how I could improve it from members on here before I submit it. It's one small part of a much larger...

    Normal behaviour?

They look rather skinny, my money is on malnourished. I've never had cories, but to me it looks like he is using his barbells to search for food on the sand. I could be wrong though so wait for other more experienced members to chime in.

Exactly.. and silver aka bala sharks can get up to 25cm... OP is going to need to drastically updgrade their tank or rehome both sharks.

    What are you doing today?

Thank you! Yes, the environmental sciences are facinating and I love being able to have class out in nature. We go outside a lot in my field skills and ecology labs. I love collecting data and learning about all the different tools used in the field and how to use them. 😍 I'm most excited for...

    Cloudy white water

Ultimately this means that you likely have some ammonia present in the water based off of your description of the fish. Ammonia is highly toxic to fish and can lead to death if exposed to high levels. I would suggest getting a test kit to see how much you have in the water and to also monitor...

    Cloudy white water

Unfortunately, it sounds like you didn't properly cycle the upgraded tank, or removed too much bb from washing the gravel and/or any other media or hard surfaces causing you to have a mini-cycle. The tank simply couldn't tolerate the addition of 4 new fish. The white water is likely a bacterial...

    Most difficult fish to catch!

This. I also used to work at a pet store and people would do this with neon tetras a lot for whatever reason. So annoying.

    Most difficult fish to catch!

    1. Your username is really appropriate for this thread :P 2. All I can think of is the "Fast AF boi" meme when you say that about your tetras lol

How to entertain a betta fish?

He sounds like a typical betta to me. Bettas are not the most active fish and they do like to rest a lot. That doesn't necessarily mean they are 'bored'. My old betta Mick was king of resting in different spots throughout the tank and patrolling the perimeter. As long as he has plenty of things...

    Stressed Betta

Not to mention this is a new environment for him which is stressful enough on it's own without added tankmates that are likely contributing to his stress. Imo the bottom line is that the tank is too small for the fish, and bettas are solitary by nature and prefer their own space. Also, some...

    Stressed Betta

Just another thing to add, neons are known fin nippers, especially when kept in inadequate numbers. Your betta is a prime target for them because of how much slower he is, and his long fins.
  32. V

    Stressed Betta

It's very possible that the other fish are stressing him out. Neons are super active fish and if he is a timid betta the activity can cause him to hide which is what it looks like he is doing in the last photo. He may not want to swim around with all the activity in such a small tank. Bettas...

    What are you doing today?

Very true since it's so specialized. Well, if you want to move to Canada, my school has a fish hatchery so I'm 90% sure they probably also offer some kind of aquatic biology program. :P

    What are you doing today?

You never know, there may a college near you that has a program like mine. The college that I'm at right now specializes in environmental science so most of their programs are heavily geared toward that.

    Betta sick @ bottom

I've read that epsom salts shouldn't be used in the main tank. It is more commonly used for salt dips to help with constipation. If one does use epsom salt it should be no more than 1/4-1/2 tsp per 10 gallons. The epsom salt overdose may have contributed to your fish's death. I would never...
