I think it was Amazonia that made that claim. No the plant I was considering was bacopa. Possibly dwarf sag because they seem like harder water plants compared to swords. I believe the soil has peat in it already.

I don’t know, I love my loachies. I’m not a fan of Cory, I have experienced the opposite, my loaches hide much less then the Cory I’ve had. I see them all the time.

Also it’s not necessarily males that are any more aggressive. Cichlids regardless of sex tend to get more aggressive if they’re courting or breeding

It could happen . They don’t have to eat too much algae with the nerites there. Wondering if ghost and those could get along. It’s a pretty big tank after all

As the cichlids get older , I am contemplating a new community. I’m thinking lots of java plants- ferns and moss with small drift wood. Probably sand based. I’m leaning towards partially self maintaining with zebra nerites, loads of ghost shrimp. Any fish added would be later and quite small...

Anybody have any sexing methods for rainbow?

I’m just not sure why; they’ve lived together for years. Just wondering where this is coming from and maybe this could be something the cichlids are doing. I so cannot sex these guys. Bn is male, the firemouth male, rainbows no idea. Wondering if there might be a breeding thing

I have a group of rainbow care cichlids. Today one flashed or rubbed against the sand and was immediately chased /attacked by a bn pleco that was nearby but not close enough that the cichlid was going after it (and it never has). Thoughts? 90 g tank, med- hard water, no eggs in tank

Hard but 1) bn plecos: I’ve raised/bred them in different colors they’re super tough and serve functionality; big plus that they’re the first fish my kids saw hatch from eggs!! 2 k loaches: these guys are pretty good in a variety of setups and they’re curious active little weirdos, my friends...

I’m doing something similar. I’m also taking out a factor to simplify this (if that interests you) . I’m looking at java ferns, partially so I can not bother perfecting substrate.

I think from an evolutionary perspective some people have to become vegetarian. There’s not enough room on earth to raise enough meat without destroying the environment completely. There’s only so much space, more people =less space. It’s not philosophical, it’s math.

My gold barbs were by themselves in a 55 for years. I don’t think they were stressed. I know some stick together for other reasons like group breeding. X-ray tetras seem nice, but no one seems to have much experience with them.

I would prefer schooling. I’ve had gold barbs and neons that we’re pretty close knit swimmers, but neons aren’t great for harder water and gold barbs just aren’t real mid tank swimmers in my experience

Yeah that’s why I’m being picky, it will also be planted well and I may be using a spare 10g for those with eggs

Keep in mind, the scent, especially certain plant oils are sometimes more toxic to certain animals then the soap itself

Antibacterial soaps are not specific to terrestrial bacteria necessarily so might restart your bacteria cycle also

Yeah I could see that too, but I’d like a school of something to go with them. I’m wondering if X-ray tetras, Pristell a, are nippy or not. If they’re not I could see a school of them with a wandering cloud of Endlers.
