    Soil ph limits

I also never said I was targeting a ph, just seem to just have assumed that. I just want to know how long the soil will effect it.

    Soil ph limits

Well no not any substrate high phs reduce the ability to take in nutrients, but that’s not my question. In fact no one seems to be able to answer it. As for the fish you say are in danger. No fish will not be harmed, because I have no fish.

    Soil ph limits

I’m familiar with ph and oh etc. I believe ph out of tap is 7.8.

    Soil ph limits

I think it was Amazonia that made that claim. No the plant I was considering was bacopa. Possibly dwarf sag because they seem like harder water plants compared to swords. I believe the soil has peat in it already.

    Soil ph limits

Ok so what’s m looking into a more serious planted tank and I’m looking at aqualsoils that lower ph, this might be good since my ph is like 7.8 and there’s pretty hard water. Here’s my question. At what point does aquasoil stop doing this? Like is there a point where it becomes ineffective and...

    Mts vs electric blue cray

So I know dwarf crayfish will eat snails, but I’m looking at bigger X-rays and wondering if Malaysian trumpet snails are too small for them to care about or if they would even bother, thoughts Very welcome here.

    Plecos on the nest

actually if you read more carefully, it says all types of pleco later in the article

    Plecos on the nest

A friend of mine suggested checking out TheNest for more fish ideas, but after seeing their article on how “plecos can’t be bred in aquarium “ and laughing my butt off, I think I’m done there.

New little additions getting born as I post

I believe endlers are considered the least line bred. I’m planning on giving them a go at some point

    Corydoras or Kuhli Loaches?

My loaches just don’t hide at all. They swim and play pretty freely. It would be easy for them to hide or dig, they just don’t.

    Corydoras or Kuhli Loaches?

No I had a dozen, so no

    Corydoras or Kuhli Loaches?

I don’t know, I love my loachies. I’m not a fan of Cory, I have experienced the opposite, my loaches hide much less then the Cory I’ve had. I see them all the time.

    Husbands or no?

Also it’s not necessarily males that are any more aggressive. Cichlids regardless of sex tend to get more aggressive if they’re courting or breeding

    New tank idea

Thanks, I wasn’t 100 on the merited. Fish I’m looking at are all small. I looked at ember tetras, but want something more compatible with hardwater. Looking at endlers, but not decided

    New tank idea

I think I’ve heard something like that. If someone knows any way to tell those apart send me a line

    New tank idea

I’ve raised ghosts before but not with the other, any problems mixing species?

    New tank idea

I think that one was one of the 2 ;)

    New tank idea

It could happen . They don’t have to eat too much algae with the nerites there. Wondering if ghost and those could get along. It’s a pretty big tank after all
  19. W

    New tank idea

As the cichlids get older , I am contemplating a new community. I’m thinking lots of java plants- ferns and moss with small drift wood. Probably sand based. I’m leaning towards partially self maintaining with zebra nerites, loads of ghost shrimp. Any fish added would be later and quite small...

    Rainbow cichlids

Anybody have any sexing methods for rainbow?
  21. W

    Rainbow cichlids

I’m just not sure why; they’ve lived together for years. Just wondering where this is coming from and maybe this could be something the cichlids are doing. I so cannot sex these guys. Bn is male, the firemouth male, rainbows no idea. Wondering if there might be a breeding thing
  22. W

    Rainbow cichlids

I have a group of rainbow care cichlids. Today one flashed or rubbed against the sand and was immediately chased /attacked by a bn pleco that was nearby but not close enough that the cichlid was going after it (and it never has). Thoughts? 90 g tank, med- hard water, no eggs in tank

    Top 5 fish you've kept???

Hard but 1) bn plecos: I’ve raised/bred them in different colors they’re super tough and serve functionality; big plus that they’re the first fish my kids saw hatch from eggs!! 2 k loaches: these guys are pretty good in a variety of setups and they’re curious active little weirdos, my friends...

    Maybe a bit creepy!

Disagree, they have never meant the same thing as sex described biology and gender described societal role and has so as long as English has been a language, but I’m willing to drop it
  25. W

    Maybe a bit creepy!

Not sure how it could be debatable. They have different meanings Scientifically there’s a difference, also genetically there are others including XXY and xyy
  26. W

    Maybe a bit creepy!

Actually xx and xy are sexes , not genders . There’s a difference

Pet store customers (animals in general)

I finally convinced my daughter that p-land is no good. We went there recently and she was looking at a ferret and a store owner tried to give her tips on keeping “rodents “, um yeah so not a rodent

    Can I add anymore fish?

Agree, in fact some angels at max size will eat guppies

    Wow these poor fish

Not walking anymore, I’m the only person not at home lol

    Planted Tank Suggestions

I’m doing something similar. I’m also taking out a factor to simplify this (if that interests you) . I’m looking at java ferns, partially so I can not bother perfecting substrate.
  32. W

    Wow these poor fish

I think from an evolutionary perspective some people have to become vegetarian. There’s not enough room on earth to raise enough meat without destroying the environment completely. There’s only so much space, more people =less space. It’s not philosophical, it’s math.

    Wow these poor fish

I’m veg and nope not pro choice

    Shrimp school

My gold barbs were by themselves in a 55 for years. I don’t think they were stressed. I know some stick together for other reasons like group breeding. X-ray tetras seem nice, but no one seems to have much experience with them.
  35. W

    Shrimp school

I would prefer schooling. I’ve had gold barbs and neons that we’re pretty close knit swimmers, but neons aren’t great for harder water and gold barbs just aren’t real mid tank swimmers in my experience
  36. W

    Shrimp school

Yeah that’s why I’m being picky, it will also be planted well and I may be using a spare 10g for those with eggs

Are soap/sunscreen/ lotion dangerous to fishes?

Keep in mind, the scent, especially certain plant oils are sometimes more toxic to certain animals then the soap itself
  38. W

Are soap/sunscreen/ lotion dangerous to fishes?

I think it depends on the size of the tank
  39. W

Are soap/sunscreen/ lotion dangerous to fishes?

Antibacterial soaps are not specific to terrestrial bacteria necessarily so might restart your bacteria cycle also
  40. W

    Shrimp school

Yeah I could see that too, but I’d like a school of something to go with them. I’m wondering if X-ray tetras, Pristell a, are nippy or not. If they’re not I could see a school of them with a wandering cloud of Endlers.
