Can I add beneficial bacteria to a vessel without a filtration system?

I see some so-called HOB filters which may be quieter, but I don't think I can mount it in a tall bucket (80cm) like the above? So I resort to using a noisier filter.

Can I add beneficial bacteria to a vessel without a filtration system?

@xxBarneyxx 1) By "live filter" do you mean a cycled filter, including a cycled sponge filter? By the way, some more questions: 2) I am using a sponge filter now but it is a bit noisy. Is there any way to reduce its noise but maintain its effectiveness? 3) On the other hand, I did a 1/3...

Can I add beneficial bacteria to a vessel without a filtration system?

OK, I bought a sponge filter and I'd use it anyway, since some of you say including it is better. Say, if I put the sponge filter inside. Can I right away pour some beneficial bacteria liquid to the bucket (with the presence of a fish)?

Can I add beneficial bacteria to a vessel without a filtration system?

My main tank is about 300L. But now I am referring to the above hospital "bucket" tank. I wonder if it needs a simple filtration system and whether a sponge filter is something I need--a simple yet effective filtration system?

Can I add beneficial bacteria to a vessel without a filtration system?

I am currently quarantining a koi fish with pop eye disease in a big fish bucket made of canvas. The bucket does not have a filtering system at this moment. But it has two strong oxygen pumps. Without the system, can I add beneficial bacteria to the bucket to help clean the water? Surely, I...

Koi Fish with Recurring Pop Eye

In Hong Kong, we don't have ponds for normal households. We have been raising the Koi fish from small ones in this tank for many many years. By the way, the dedicated salts you suggest can both raise the GH and KH and help his eyes (also performs your salt bath function)?

Koi Fish with Recurring Pop Eye

Thank you for you guys' comments! By the way, raising the PH, GH and KH levels can alleviate the eye problem? I think the water condition has been similar since we started raising them. And, other Koi fishes don't have problems. Is it really crucial to raise the levels if I want to cure the eye...

Koi Fish with Recurring Pop Eye

My fish's left eye has been problematic for 1-2 years. But at the very beginning and for most of the time, the eye was just cloudy and nothing else. One day, I used Waterlife Myxazin to treat the fish and his eye healed successfully. It turned clear. However, since 2 months ago, not just the...

When moving fishes to a new tank, can I simply re-use all water of the old tank?

Thanks:D. All my doubts are cleared:good:. Thanks for all, especially the last few forum users. By the way, just a side question: if I am to add nitrifying bacteria to the tank, you guys say they don't live in water, where should I add them to? Directly to the filter media, the filter pad, or...

When moving fishes to a new tank, can I simply re-use all water of the old tank?

@essjay When you do a water change do you run tap water, add water conditioner and put it straight in the tank? You do not let the new water sit for 2 or 3 days before adding it to the tank? I normally just minus 1/3 of the tank's water (which was originally tap water) and add in 1/3 new tap...

When moving fishes to a new tank, can I simply re-use all water of the old tank?

@AdoraBelle Dearheart The reason why I prefer using the old water is because if I use the new water, I have to do those cycling things for 2-3 days. Because of geography, I have to relocate the fishes to a bucket or other kind of container (instead of keeping them in the old tank, since we don't...

When moving fishes to a new tank, can I simply re-use all water of the old tank?

Do you mean I can relocate (and hence reuse) the filter and other things like the air pump to the new tank. But never re-use the old water, the water must be new. And then just simply cycle the new water with the old filter? First (hope someone can answer one by one), the above is yes/no...

When moving fishes to a new tank, can I simply re-use all water of the old tank?

Yes, I will use the same filter (so the bacteria as you said are in it), so no problem on the whole right with the old water, right? And I don't have other things like wood, slate or plants.

When moving fishes to a new tank, can I simply re-use all water of the old tank?

I am raising some koi fishes (freshwater ones) and I will have a new tank very soon. So, I am going to move the fishes from the old tank to the new tank. The sizes of the tanks are similar. So, I know the first thing to do is to fill up the new tank with new, salty water and leave the water...

What species is my fish? And it has not eaten anything for a month!

I had kept this small fish with a no. of bigger koi fish in a big tank for 10 years and it ate pellets. Just a month ago I discovered it got some wounds and cloudy eyes and since then it has not been eating. Also, the small fish was used to be bullied by the bigger koi fishes (their big mouths...
