Its a 10 gal tank with 5 guppies. Only the water conditioner is used in the last few months. I don't rinse the filter but I do put a new one in every 2 months. I do water changes about 2-3 gallons every week. The water is crystal clear. The rocks are the cheap pink rocks that you get from Petco.

Then after the water change not much until a few days after, where the ammonia starts to go up. I caught it at .5 ammonia this time. Last time I was a little too late and the ammonia was 0 but the nitrite was 2.

The tank is cycled, so ammonia and nitrite are both 0 and nitrate is usually around 5. The GH and KH are both off the chart and the PH is about 8

So my tank is killing guppies again. And it seems to be after 25%+ water changes. I use a water dechlorinator and make sure the water is the right temp before introducing it. But like clock work a few days after a water change the ammonia starts going up and the fish get sick. I'm thinking...

Thank you. I'll leave the filter alone. 2 fish have died but the others are starting to move around more. So hopefully the worst is over. I'll keep water changes going until they are back to normal.

I did a big water change with my gravel vacuum and took out the decorations to clean them as well. Checked the water and ammonia/nitrite were both 0. Looks like the youngest fish is going to die but hopefully the rest get better. I'll change the water every day. I have filter cartridges...

I had an algae problem that is now gone. I used the algae remover power the directions, but ever since I first put it in there the fish have stayed st the very top of the tank. They won't eat or leave it. Any ideas. Thanks

Got the big api test kit. Ammonia was at 1 , nitrites 0. Water change with primer and conditioner. Retest 30 min later ammonia .25. Ammonia must have been real high

Hardness 228 mg/L minerals 440 mg/L 7.8ph. I couldn't find alkalinity.

Aqueon water conditioner. I just did a 50% water change and we were definitely over feeding.

After I do the water conditioner it lowers the gh and kh. I read that a low kh can kill fish. Is there one that removes chlorine but not kh.
