    Ideas on Fish Home

Hey ya'll. I am moving and cannot house or set up a tank that will be good for my current fish. Any ideas on what you all do if you need to give away or find another home for your fish? I know I could give them to my LFS, but wondering what other options are there. I'm in the Washington State...

    75 Gallon Stocking Ideas

Really good options. The only issue I have with a few of them is that I've done a planted tank and it drove me nuts with the trimming and dosing. I have two kids and need a low maintenance tank. Plus I bought a home which now adds to my plate maintenance wise.

ph 7, no idea on the hardness. tank is not cycled, but I'm a patient man and can gradually add fish until it's full of fish. I plan on either a bare bottom tank OR sand substrate.

    75 Gallon Stocking Ideas

Hey friends. I'm looking to restart my 75-gallon tank with a few criteria for fish stocking options: -Fish should be hardy -Peaceful/community -Don't nip fins -Don't jump out of tanks (I not have a cover nor want one) Thanks, everyone!

So, now that I have an empty tank do I need to clean it, break it down completely. I have a small fish in my big tank that needs more time to grow out since. Suggestions, advice?

Okay, bad news. I woke up and found Jasmine dead. She was doing so well, but something happened at night. We did a goodbye ceremony for her and the kids are a bit sad right now.

Not at all. She was really bad and isn't out of the woods yet. Thanks for your help!

    Peacocks or Mbuna

Great looking tank! I don't have experience with them, but I was very close to getting cichlids, but they are too aggressive for my wife and it would stress her out too much. Happy wife, happy life! Good luck with your exciting decision.

I want to thank everyone for being so supportive and awesome. Jasmine, our female betta is doing better. She's swimming around more and approaching me when I walk up to her. Kids are happy to see her swimming around the tank. She'll take a break every now and then to rest, but she's active and...

Okay, she back to being motionless at the bottom of the tank and now is starting to tilt sideways. :(

No. I would have added that info. Usually when I post something I try to include as much info as possible.

Okay, good news and bad news. She's moving around now and because of that I can see her bottom fins and tail fin is ragged and eroded more than yesterday.

No, there's only one nerite snail in there and he's happy and moving around. My first test today was .25ppm, my second test after the 60% WC came to .25ppm again. Maybe I did read it wrong the first time. Yellow and light green look pretty similar which I hate about these tests!

But honestly, it's not eggs. What concerned me to even start this post is that her scales seemed to be sticking out and she stopped eating and being active, just sitting at the bottom of the tank.

I can't go outside, I'm in an apartment with no balcony so I have to hold it near natural light near a window. LOL.

There's a nerite snail. I can try the meds, but I'd rather see what she has before I give her something that isn't needed.

My suspicion is that she tore those fins, but I will keep an eye on them. She does seems to be growing her fins back from the erosion.

is .25ppm high? someone just said I could be getting a false reading. Honestly I hate how the API master kit makes it so hard to see the colors and how the shading of the color changes depending on how close you hold it to the color sheet and how bright your room is lit. Back to my fish. She...

I've done the water change and cleaned the filter and glass. Did a gravel vac as well. I will keep an eye on her and fast her for two days. She started to act this way a couple of days ago, but still swam to me to get food. It just got rapidly bad today.

    Betta Dying

Okay did a 60% water change just now. Ammonia is still .25ppm. She's still acting the same. I give her a high protein diet because that is what I have been told/taught to give her.

She's been eating bug bites, freeze dried blood worms, and micro wafers. Her scales have lifted a bit and she does seem dull in color that usual. I feed her once a day and fast her once a week.

Well, she won't move at all so I can't get a better photo or angle. Her gills are barely moving. She doesn't even look at me. She's just laying next to the wood and gravel. I just researched clove oil, but it'll take awhile for it to arrive and that means she will suffer for a few more days.

Treatment. The infection causing dropsy is not easily cured. Some experts recommend that all affected fish be euthanized to prevent the spread of the infection to healthy fish. Also, when combined with popeye, the prognosis is bleak. Just read that online. That sounds horrible. I'll observe for...

Okay she is definitely not well. She used to come to me aggressively wanting food and now she doesn't respond to me at all. I checked for ammonia and its at .25 ppm, when I just did a 50% water change yesterday so that's strange. This is a cycled tank so I'm curious how that happened. she...

I have a female betta that I think is close to dying. I tried taking a picture of her, but she's hiding at the bottom of my tank near the corner. Anacharis vs. Traditional?

I gave up. I'm going to use anacharis exclusively as a floating plant. It'll give my fish cover and still suck up nitrates and ammonia from the water column.

    Anacharis vs. Traditional?

I've had bad experiences with water lettuce as well. They keep getting water on top of them and turn yellow and rot.
  36. cupofjoel

    Anacharis vs. Traditional?

It's supposed to raise nitrates since it's what plants need. You just need to make sure nitrates don't go above 20ppm. It's about monitoring your dosing and getting it right for your tank and maintenance schedule. My original question was why we need to dose in the first place if fish poop is...

    Anacharis vs. Traditional?

Yeah, I'm close to giving up on my floating plants. They are getting on my nerves every time I do a water change. Also, the biofilm on the surface of my water is also getting annoying since the floating plants are preventing my surface skimmer from doing its job. I ordered a bunch of anacharis...

Do we always need to dose ferts? I always thought fish provided that since fish poop gives what plants need, nitrogen.

    Anacharis vs. Traditional?

That's very generous and kind of you, but unfortunately, I'm in the States. I can easily order several stems and see how I like them in my tank. Part of this hobby is trying new things and seeing it works for you!
