I completely agree :) I’ll just have to wait and see how big they eventually get. More pics of of the two fish in the cave. Looks like they did lay about 30 eggs. The older one leaves the cave often and the small one takes her place and fans. Didn’t happen when the large female had her other...

    Breeding behaviors in female-only tank

Here is another thread where I asked that: https://www.fishforums.net/threads/honduran-red-points-x-convicts.451411/ But, size-wise they are abou right for HRPs, and the size of the broods were about 40-70 babies each time, within range for red points but would be low for convicts. Each brood...

    Breeding behaviors in female-only tank

Hi! Thanks for your response! I am certain of the sex of the larger one. She has a very orange belly most of the time. And has had babies. She is about 2.5 inches, unsure of age but she hasn't grown in the 4 months I've had her. This is Zinnia, 2.5 inches and done growing: And the smaller one...

    Breeding behaviors in female-only tank

Hello world! I've been watching my Honduran Red Points fish do some stuff recently that I thought some of you might find interesting, so here goes -- My largest female, Zinnia, and my largest male, Rhaegar, successfully spawned about three months back. As soon as fry were free swimming, dad...

Ah okay. My question above is beyond the scope ;)

    Salt Uses In Freshwater Aquariums

What type of salt should be used for a brackish tank? Aquarium salt, or reef salt? And, should the base water be RODI as in a reef tank, or is tap best?

Fish cut in half but seems fine??

When my danio died, I believe he had had dropsy. No other fish were affected. His whole belly was swollen and he had some red marks near the head and gills, I'll see if I took a pic. Since swelling is part of that, would epsom salt have been good to use then? To relieve some pressure? And yes...

Fish cut in half but seems fine??

Please let me know how to do a salt bath! I have reef salt on hand, but that might be shocking to her? I keep ph, hardness, and calcium pretty low in that tank, ph 6.8-7, kh 2-3, gh 7-8, ... I will buy some fw aquarium salt if that's going to be an issue When my danio got sick, I treated him...

Fish cut in half but seems fine??

Couldn't have been very long. I only noticed it two days ago. The blackness around the wound worried me but it doesn't look like it has spread much over the past couple days. I'm glad! I really hope she makes it. I will update here with pics when I take them!

Fish cut in half but seems fine??

Sorry, they are such bad pics. It is hard to focus the camera with her hiding in the moss, but I will take more later today. ^ in this first pic, she is swimming down and to the left. Whole body circled. The bright white mark is where the tail should start, and leading up to it is blackened. the...

They are honduran red point cichlids. Here: http://www.borstein.info/profiles/central/archhrp.html Although their mom definitely has some convict in her

Fish cut in half but seems fine??

Yes! Was just emailing them to myself, hehe. Hard to get a pic of her, because recently she has been hiding in the "forest"--a dense clump of moss. But she really seems very active, as vibrant as the others. I have been spot feeding her and she takes food. First two are the injured fish, last...

Fish cut in half but seems fine??

Hi all! I have a group of baby honduran red points that are growing up. Earlier this month the smallest of them showed a lot of damage to her tail, it was basically gone, so I removed her from her siblings into my least aggressive tank. Never saw her again and I believe she died and was eaten...

Black Skirt Kept Alone - Advice?

Yes, I would definitely consider trying to grow plants without light to be an experiement. So far my vallisneria is not doing well and I'm planning to take it out. I might actually take all the plants out of that tank and put them in the 55. The 40 is very tall, and I worry that my short plants...

    Honduran Red Points x Convicts

Finally got my pics. Here are, in order of size, all the fish: Largest male. The only one with very pointed fins. I'm pretty certain he is male. He also has a tiny black dot on the middle of his left side. He has the brightest iridescence and is aggressive toward the next three, all the other...
