New canister filter setup - Ammonia increase

It very well might. I'm usually at 0 ppm ammonia however. I'm about to test the tap water here.. I just recently moved places (across the road) and the water parameters (pH wise) are way different.

    Normal Cory behavior?

I have a sterbi cory that that likes to swim up and down the side and back of the tank. This isn't all the time but the last few days he's been very active. I've done water changes twice in the last three days as well. 0.5 ppm ammonia, 0 ppm nitrites, 5 ppm nitrates. The other corys in the...

New canister filter setup - Ammonia increase

0.5 ppm - that's correct. I had a lot of dead plant leaves in the tank that I took out before the water change. I haven't done anything to the AquaClear filter, and didn't clean it when I added the second filter. The only things that have changed other than the addition of the 2nd filter are...

New canister filter setup - Ammonia increase

I have a 30 gal tank that is cycled, using an AquaClear HOB filter. I recently decided to switch to a canister filter but don't have a second tank to cycle on. Right now I am running both filters in the one tank with the hope of cycling the Fluval 207 canister filter that way. Is this...

    Harlequin Rasbora swimming strange

Sorry, what's CPD? In other news, the little guy passed away. Whatever was wrong with him got worse. No other fish in the tank appear ill.

Help me identify these algae and how to get rid of them

Thanks for all the tips folks. I'm going to pick up some tabs and try that. I've noticed that my very frequent water changes seem to be helping as well. I was doing daily changes all last week.

Help me identify these algae and how to get rid of them

Here is a picture of the tank, I apologize for the light reflections. I have an timer on my lights and just reduced the time it comes on from 9am-7pm. I don't generally use any fertilizer, but I have used and do have Flourish Excel here at home. I don't exactly know the questions about...

Help me identify these algae and how to get rid of them

Hey all, Tank has been up and running for over a year. There are gouramis, rasbora, danios and corys in the tank along with a bristlenose and a few snails. I get some algae on my glass which I clean off during water changes, but my plants and drift wood have all kinds of things going on. See...

    Harlequin Rasbora swimming strange

30 gal tank. 5ppm, second from the top. So, I can't take a picture of the side. It moves way too fast, but it's also spiraling.. swimming upside down, kinda drifting.. one of is eyes looks enlarged compared to the other.

    Harlequin Rasbora swimming strange

Here's a link to the video. I have a Harlequin who has been swimming on his side for over a week now. All the other fish in the tank are fine. Is that the air bladder disorder or something else? It kind of looks that the Rasbora might have something wrong with his left fin, but I'm not...

    Worried about my dwarf gourami

@Colin_T hey, noticed in another thread you suggested feeding gouramis 3-5 times a day. I've got one gourami now but he's in with a bunch of Rasbora and danios. Do I need to separate the gourami or can the little fish deal with the extra food?

    Worried about my dwarf gourami

RIP Kanye. Poor little guy has gone to a better place.. Anyway, thank you all for the responses. I went and picked up a picture for the back of the tank and plan to pick up some water sprite next week.

    Worried about my dwarf gourami

Thanks for the wonderful response, I'll do my best to answer everything. I'm 99% sure it's a male. He used to be quite vibrant and would go after the other gourami until the other got bigger. I feed them flakes once a day, sometimes I switch it up with blood worms. I also drop in a pellet or...

    Worried about my dwarf gourami

I have two male dwarf gourami in my 30 gal tank. I've had them for about 2 years and when I got them, they went at each other often. Now, two years later, the instigator is the smaller of the two and no longer as vibrant. For the last week or so I've noticed he just hangs at the top of the...

    New tank, new to gouramis

I have a tank which is about 2-3 weeks old with live plants, 2 dwarf powder blue gouramis, some harlequins and corys. Everyone gets along. The issue I'm having in my 29 gal tank is the filter. I bought a kit when I purchased the tank.. it came with an auto adjusting heater (not a fan) and an...
