Views on using a sump system for tropical

Thanks. Some helpful tips there. I’m not sure what clean up crew I’m going to use yet. Still a long way to go.

Really! That’s great to know too. 16sq feet floor space my tank will take a fair few bags to fill. I have gravel in my other tropical tank. You never know Argos might have a sale on soon too to get rid of the summer stuff.

No I won’t. It’s the same with my marine tank. I did read somewhere that you can use play sand in a tropical tank, don’t know if it’s true though !!

Seangee that’s great thank you for that info that’s just what I needed. I was thinking of having mostly sand with a little gravel just for ascetics.

Thanks Colin. That’s what I thought. I know with my smaller tanks I use a symphon in the tank to agettate the gravel when I clean it. I don’t do that in my marine as the bacteria in the sand is good for the ecosystem. If I have a sump underneath I didn’t know if I’d need to still syphon from the...

I don’t have that on my marine it’s a traditional Herbie system. In the tropical I was thinking of having a trickle system in the return pipes from the weir in the main tank but hadn’t thought of doing a trickle filter. I suppose that would have the benefit of using all the media in the sump as...

In addition to my tropical tank I have a 400l marine tank which obviously filters through a sump which also houses a heater, UV lamp and a protein skimmer. (I know I won’t need the skimmer) I’m looking at upgrading my tropical to an 8ft 1000l one. I really like the sump system on the marine as...

    Lighting suggestions

Hello. I’m setting up a new tank. It will house a variety of community fish and have live plants. The tank will be 36” deep. I am after some suggestions for some good lighting preferably LED. As the tank Is 120” long I want to put 2 or 3 light units across the width of the tank which will be 18”...
