I am thinking of upgrading my tank but had hoped to have saved up a bit more first- is now the time? Is there any hope of getting rid of such stuff?

Could this be rust? When deep cleaning today I discovered some rusty stuff at the bottom of the aquarium- will do a thorough wash out tomorrow and restart!

This is what I find covering my rocks pretty much daily and my ceramic media is filthy too despite a thorough vacuum every week

It doesn’t it wipes off really easily!

My beautiful betta has a large chunk of his tail missing! Everything in his tank is quite smooth it seems to have happened overnight. The rest of his fins look normal- is this fin rot or a fin injury? I am so upset!

Hi, When I do a water change all this dusty dirty stuff gets stirred up, lands on my ornaments and looks horrid! Any idea what it could be/ how I prevent it? Water going in is crystal clear, it’s all over my white pebbles and betta cave and looks like a thick layer of dust!

The filter is just the standard Biorb one which has a sponge in it. Biorb says this needs to be running to grow the beneficial bacteria (but then says you need to change this filter every month ????) Because the filter is so low does this mean I need to treat my tank as unfiltered and change...

Update: went to LFS and got a new heater (not Biorb) hit 25C in two hours :) Thank you for all your help!

Update- been in for three hours set at 28C- nothing- the heater tube is cold the thermometer is just temperature of the room- 22C. Have not seen heater come on at all... so am going to assume it is faulty?

Ok thanks, I set to 25 the heater (Biorb) glowed orange for 30 seconds and shut off again but thermometer reading 21 still! Should I turn up the heater?

Will it automatically switch off when it gets to 22C? Sorry if I am being stupid- this is all brand new to me! After a very chilly evening it is down to 21C.

So just got in - tank is reading 23C - outside temp is 11C. Obviously no heating. But I read the optimum for a betta is 25-27... I’m confused- what should I do in winter? If it’s 21 is that ok with no heating? Do I leave the heater out until it drops to below 21C?
