Anyone have any idea what kind of fish that is with the stripe? There are 2 in the tank that a member of my family ended up with. The tank with fish was given to her. There's an angelfish. The person she got it from never cleaned it or took care of it. She wanted to know the type of fish this is.

Thanks. Right now my digital and fusion thermometer show 76..the fish are just as happy as ever. It fluctuates between 75 and 76. If I have to, I'll turn heater down a tad. Shouldn't have to recalibrate it I think.

I ended up taking the background off and turned it over. I used vaseline to reapply it. It looks better and if there's any bubbles, can't really tell cause it's a slightly darker background with rocks and plants. I'm sure most of bubbles are at the bottom and hardly noticeable.

Thanks for the idea. Do I glue background the plexiglass? Will it press against the tank enough to make the background show clearer? I've also been looking for self adhesive backgrounds online, but haven't found much.

I have a 20 gallon high tank with a background on it. I have had it a long time and the background is starting to get bubbles in some areas..can't seem to get rid of them all...it's good enough and not a major issue, but wanted to know if I could stick a new background on a piece of cardboard...

No luck finding anything. At Petco, only had 2 cherry barbs, still no honey gourami. Petsmart doesn't have cherry barbs or honey gourami. Several of their tanks had no fish in them. Any other suggestions as to what else I could add?

Aaah...thanks for the info. Might be better to have 4 females and 2 males, don't wanna overstock my 20 gallon high tank or whatever, unless you think 8 is ok. I was just thinking about maybe just 1 danio and another cory to make 6 of each and maybe 6 cherry barbs..would 8 be too many of each?

If I happen to get a bolivian ram, should I just get 1 or 2? I have 5 danios and corys and will get maybe a couple more of each. I also was looking online at the cherry barbs, since they have been suggested to me as well. Maybe 4 females and a male for the barbs...I do like the male red color...

Update....did small water change yesterday and just tested ammonia before I feed the fish. It is at 0 and tank is crystal clear. Ok to add new fish or should I still wait?

Was told I could wait a week, but I prob wait a month. Guess I'll start feeding them again in the morning like usual. Will keep water changes small once a week too. Thanks

Looks like ammonia is now at 0 Guess no need for another water change. Should I wait a week before adding new fish?

Ok. I'm did a small change when I went home for lunch. Did 20% and will test it tmrw. Looks like a small bacteria bloom from the large water change, which I read is normal and will clear up on it's own.

I was just told on another forum that the API test can show 0.25 even if no ammonia present and to do a smaller water change this time, 20% I will do another water change this afternoon. Appreciate your help.

Update.... Just did water test for Nitrate and ammonia Nitrates 5.0 and ammonia shows 0.25 Again, I'm using the API freshwater test kit. I am guessing I should do another water change? I'll hafta do it this afternoon when I get back home.

Already did large water change. I read it lasts 24-48 hours and best to test again in 24 hours for more accurate results. I have a dropper that I used. I just used 0.5 each time I filled the bucket. So that should be fine. Will test it tomorrow after 8:30 and see what results I get for ammonia...

Thanks for the help. Just tested ammonia and nitrate. Nitrate is lower at 20, but ammonia is the same at .50. Not sure if ammonia is accurate or not. My poor fish died I found a post about Prime dosage on Reddit that says 1/4 ml for 2.5g. So, how long to wait to test water after water change...

Just tested tap water again for ammonia with drop of prime added and it shows 0. Will test water tmrw afternoon and then if needed after results, do I do a 50% change? Also, should I feed them like normal in morning and then test water later in afternoon when it's been 24 hours or test before...

I was just going by what people said on different fish forums. People mentioned that API was that kind of tester.

Thanks. Have read mixed reviews about that statement. Their test kit for ammonia tests for free and total ammonia. Have also read where some folks have been getting crazy readings using prime and API. I watched a YouTube video and found out that is because if you use Prime, it detects the bound...

On Seachem's site, they say API can give a false reading for ammonia. I get confused easily with all this stuff. Thanks for helping.

Just added Prime to the tank. I read that the API test kit can give a false reading for ammonia. What kit should I use to test? They only had API kit at Petco.

Ok..thanks for the help. More than likely it's the tap water. Tap water stinks. You can smell it a mile away.

I always use dechlorinated water. Use the water from tank when doing water change. Read about it on other forums

It is cycled...had my tank for bout a year. Could be tap water. Water here sucks and smells. Hard water. I already did a 50% change this morning and added AquaSafe plus to the water in bucket before adding to tank. Will prob hafta go buy some prime or can I add AquaSafe plus to the tank?
