Corydoras sterbai eggs - moved to separate tank - questions

I don't actually know. :fun: I assume that I have not spotted them all at once. Even though they are getting easier to see, they are still hard to see when they hold still on the sand. I think somewhere around 22 - 25? They're fascinating to watch. They look wiggly like tadpoles when they are...

Corydoras sterbai eggs - moved to separate tank - questions

This is from yesterday. It is the best picture I have so far. I have seen as many as 16, but they are still easiest to see when moving. Because this one settled on the thermometer, it has nicely put itself where there is also something for scale. The thermometer is about 4 cm (2 inches) across.

    Corydoras discussion

I think it depends mostly on how similar/compatible they are. Some years ago (maybe 30!?) I bought a couple of cories, not knowing they needed friends (the person at the shop said they'd be fine with only 2 ). My dad told me otherwise, but when I went to find others of the same...

    Liquifry

It's a nursery tank 30 cm X 30 cm X 35 cm (high). I've got a fair amount of sand in the bottom, so 25 - 26 cm water height? The recommended amount is 1 drop for every 4.5 litres 2- 4 times per day. I have been using 6 - 7 drops, 2 X per day. I thought that made sense when I was trying to...

    Liquifry

Hi everyone, I wasn't sure if this belonged here, or somewhere else. It's related to corydoras, but not necessarily specific to them. I did a search and could not find the answer to my question. We have cory fry...

Corydoras sterbai eggs - moved to separate tank - questions

The sponge is part of one from an Eheim pump/filter that has an internal sponge. You can't see the fry, but they like to hide under there.

Corydoras sterbai eggs - moved to separate tank - questions

The filter is cycled. I keep some extra bits of filter media in the external filter for the mother tank, so I can use them to start new filter pumps or aquariums. I went to some other pet shops yesterday, and found an air pump and air stone. The shop said they would order a sponge filter...

Corydoras sterbai eggs - moved to separate tank - questions

I put a piece of filter media in there from another tank, and a few plants. I have turned the filter off. I did try to find an air stone the other day, but the pet shop I was at did not have any. I was thinking of making my own sponge filter but could not find the parts. I can try another...

Corydoras sterbai eggs - moved to separate tank - questions

A few have hatched. They are really hard to see, but I got lucky and caught a fry moment with my phone.

Corydoras sterbai eggs - moved to separate tank - questions

I put filter media, plus nylon over the little filter pump & I think it is still too much. I may try some other pets shops tomorrow. I did get some Liquifry, and started adding that to the tank. Hopefully, that will be enough. The eggs have gone a sort of sandy colour. Does that mean they...

Corydoras sterbai eggs - moved to separate tank - questions

The mother tank has an external filter & pump. I have a bit of nylon stocking/pantyhose over the intake. I did lose a few eggs on the bottom during the removal process, but I guess those will get eaten.

Corydoras sterbai eggs - moved to separate tank - questions

Well, I called around to various pet shops & none have sponge filters. They all said they can order them, but it's hard to say when they will arrive because their normal supply times are disrupted. I was thinking of having a go at making my own, but they didn't have any air pumps, either...

Corydoras sterbai eggs - moved to separate tank - questions

I've read that it's not good to leave the bottom of the aquarium bare. Anyway, the sand is already in the tank. Since it's clean sand, I was planning on doing water changes without cleaning the sand for at least a couple of weeks. After that I will see how it goes. I live in Norway, and...

Corydoras sterbai eggs - moved to separate tank - questions

Hi everyone, Our corydoras sterbai spawned overnight. I wasn't really prepared & didn't have a breeding net or anything. I do have some breeding boaxes for our live bearers, but I think the openings in those are too big for newly hatched cories. Anyway, we had a little 30 litre (10 gal?)...

    A Couple of Questions

With regard to the fry, can you have someone feed them once per day? That's what I do. Neighbors come, bring in the mail, feed the cats & the fish :) I use Liquifry, so it's quite easy to give the neighbor instructions on how to feed them. As for the snails, I think they help the tank...

Can anyone help me. I have this disease in my pond that’s wiping out my entire pond.

Please answer the following questions: 1) are there any other symptoms? 2) how many grams nitrates & nitrites per litre in the water? 3) have the fish responded to any treatment? 4) what kind of filtration do you use & were the filters in place during medical treatment?

Can anyone help me. I have this disease in my pond that’s wiping out my entire pond.

That's fair enough, and I did emphasise the need for water quality parmeters. It is hopefully a side track issue, but as for treatment, I know that most fish keepers recommend euthanising, but I have seen a couple of references to treating fish with antibiotics. One such reference is here...

Can anyone help me. I have this disease in my pond that’s wiping out my entire pond.

OK. Sorry, I misunderstood your description. The bent spine can be caused by a number of things, including hereditary factors, water conditions, and disease. There is a bacterial infection, commonly called fish tuberculosis, that can cause that bent spine. It normally also causes...

Can anyone help me. I have this disease in my pond that’s wiping out my entire pond.

100 fish? That's an awful lot. First, if your pond is new, it will not have developed a good environment for your fish. Please read the subforum on cycling https://www.fishforums.net/forums/cycle-your-tank.291/ Even though you have a pond, you still need a healthy nitrogen cycle...

    Probable velvet. Advise please

Kids' liquid medicine, like paracetemol (Tylenol) or ibuprofen often come with a dosing syringe that works well for fish medicine, water additives, and other stuff. Ask someone that you know who has kids, and they probably have a few.

Please tell me what is wrong with my swordtail (picture)

I live in Norway. There are not many independent pet shops, and none near me. There is a fish keeping club, and I've considered contacting them, but the fish are actually my son's and he's not interested in the club. The pet shop that I got our first fish from I no longer use. I'm not happy...

Please tell me what is wrong with my swordtail (picture)

You can se that our guy has lost a little bit of his tail, which made me wonder about fin rot or something, but the lump formed before anything else happened. And the other one who died last year never had anything that looked like rot. He looked otherwise fine until his lump was quite large...

OK... this is an excerpt of relevant discussion from the thread linked above. What is described is identical to the progression I have observed in my two fish. Someone in the thread linked some pictures on photobucket that I cannot access. RedAngelFish 03-02-2011, 02:10 PM I hear there is a...

Please tell me what is wrong with my swordtail (picture)

I have put salt in the tank and turned the temperature up a bit. But that treatment did not help the previous victim. I also tried Sera baktopur direct, which are tablets that say 'water treatment against internal and external bacteria' for fresh and marine water fish. I still have some & the...

    Probable velvet. Advise please

I've never had velvet, but I do recommend next putting plants in quarantine for at least a week before placing them in a community tank. Some folks quarantine them for two weeks. You can keep them in a bucket or quarantine tank for a while before putting them in with your fish.

Please tell me what is wrong with my swordtail (picture)

For anyone who comes across this thread, or has a similar problem with a swordtail.... I now think that the fish pictured above suffered from cancer. He died a few weeks after this post. I have another one, now. A very similar looking offspring of the pictured fish recently developed a lump...

Transfering filter media from internal to external system

Yes, I have several sponges and a white pad, so I'll do as you suggested and replace a middle sponge with media from other aquariums. That's kind of what I was thinking anyway. Thanks :)

Transfering filter media from internal to external system

Hi everyone, I'm setting up a new (bought used) aquarium with an external pump and filter for the first time. My question is about transferring sponge filter media from an internal pump & filter, eheim pick up series. The external pump & filter is eheim 250 and has different filter media. One is...

    Best way to acclimate fish

I follow a procedure described by several above... float the bag in the, gradually adding water from my tank. I don't put shop water in my tank. I do, however recommend -only introducing a few fish at a time -putting them in a quarantine tank for a week or so before moving them to their new...

    Ramshorn snails?

We have bladder snails and ramshorn snails. They came with purchased plants. They initially multiplied alot, and I had to do some population control, but after a while they seemed to reach an equilibrium level population. Our 120 L tank now seems to have a fairly consistent dozen or so adult...

    fry, fry and now eggs!

Enjoy your fry! I have to admit that we rescue as many as we can from their parents. Eventually we will have to start rehoming them. The easiest thing is to get another, larger aquarium (yes, I know, slippery slope and all that :p ) and make the 60 L your nursery tank. Then you can get your...

    Question About Filter Changing

What I do is... Every other water change (once every couple of weeks), I dissamble the pump/filter. I put the filter in one bucket of water, while I clean the impeller & casing with a toothbrush (the only thing this toothbrush is used for). I don't clean it thoroughly. Just get the gunge out...
