Hi, I've been using 5 micron filter floss twist tied to my canister intake as a pre filter. It lasts a few days but I can easily swap it out and when I have a bunch of used ones bleach them for a few days. You can also just throw them out. A big roll of this stuff for ponds is $20 or so on...
