    My First Ever Tank

    I added 1.26ml of ammonia 48 hours ago to bring the tank up to 3ppm as recommended. I noticed a little bit of a bloom yesterday and today's readings are as follows:   Amonia: 2ppm Nitrates: 5ppm Nitrites: 5ppm   Is this the spike i am looking for or is something not working properly.

    Latest pic after adding a few more plants. There seems to have been some growth on the originals which is good news.        I am wondering if it would be ok to add a few snails or shrimp at this stage or should i wait for the cycle for them too?

    Thanks guys, i have the test kit and ammonia on its way from Amazon so i will hold off putting anything in the tank till thats sorted.   I am thinking i will like some Tetras, guppies and mollys. I would also like some shrimps and snails for the bottom.

    Thats a great article Ch4rlie, thanks for that. I guess i will have to get the water tested in the local shop as i dont have the kit needed. I was advised by Pets at Home to set it up and wait for it to go cloudy, once that clears i would be ok to add fish... seems he was summerising a bit too...
