    Tank Leaning Forward

Thanks for the replies folks.  The one thing I failed to check initially was, how level is the floor? It's not, and my flat is only a year old.  Though, I cut a strip of off cut carpet, and ran it under the front of the unit and that has helped level it off.

    Tank Leaning Forward

Hi folks, I was setting up a tank the other night and when I filled it with water, I noticed that it's leaning forward slightly. The water level at the front of the tank is between 2-3mm higher than the back.  I there a tolerance, or should the water be dead level. I have an aquarium base mat...

    Heater Question

Hi folks, Just setting up my 24l tank and I've put the filter at one side and the heater vertical on the other side, with the flow from the filter directed towards it. The thing I've noticed is that the heater seems to be switching on for a couple of minutes, then off for a couple of minutes...

    Pets At Home Tanks

Thanks for the advice folks. Used some white vinegar today, and that done the trick. Washed the tank out a couple of times with warm water, and I'll wash it out again tomorrow. Oh, I did speak to peers at home and they said, "yes we have one of those tanks in the office, and we used a sponge"...

Hi, Just got hold of a PAH starter tank, but there was a label held on inside it with some sort of sticky tape. Tried to clean it of with warm water but its not really budging. Also noticed small bits of sticky residue around the tank. What should I use to clean them off? Anthony

    Upping My Ph Without Chemicals

It's not really an issue at the moment. I just would like to find out by how much will my water quality change over time as it looks like it's the main thing I'll have to keep on top of. Also the LFS did show me some nice tetras and balloon rams that will suit soft water

    Upping My Ph Without Chemicals

Using my Sera rest strips I checked my tap water. The result was a pH of 6.4. So this morning I went along to a LFS and they check it too. Using liquid test kits they found I had a pH of 6, it may be even less. I live in a new build that is under a year old, would talking to Scottish water be...

    Upping My Ph Without Chemicals

Hi folks, thank you for the replys. One of the reasons I want/ed to get guppies or platies was due to the colours you can get, and when I visited my LFS,they were the first to catch my eye due to this. I value what you guys have said, and it has got me thinking, do i want to stress fish, and...

    Upping My Ph Without Chemicals

Hi, my pH sits around 6.4-6.5. (I  live in Glasgow where I seem to have very soft water). To have fish like guppies, or platies I think I need to up my pH to around 7.  My LFS told me I could use coral rocks, but over time my pH would go quite high, so I was thinking about mixing some crushed...

    Heat Retention In Various Volumes

Hi, I've been toying with the idea of starting a heated tank, and I have a question about heating. for instance I assume that it would take less time to heat 20l of water compared to 35l of water, but my question is does the larger volume of water retain the heat longer, making it more...

    Hi Newbie Here

Decided to go for some white cloud mountain minnows. got four at the weekend. Added a live plant today in the left hand side.  the fish seem to like it as they are always swimming through it. Don't know if I'd be able to add any onter fish to the tank, maybe some gold CMM's.

    Fish Tank Cabinets.....cheap

I want to put my 45x30 tank onto a cabinet or table rather than have it on the kitchen worktop. I'm looking for something around 100cm in length and at least 45cm-50cm deep (in case I upgrade the tank). I'm not allowed flooring in my flat so I've got carpets, but when my lovely neighbours...

    Hi Newbie Here

Hi, yes, it's been running for a few weeks now. The filter in the background is my old aquaflo 50. I,ve been running a aqua flow 100 in conjuction with it for a week so far. The tank is a 40 litre, 46x30x30. I kind of know that when they do get bigger at least one will have toleave

    Hi Newbie Here

Hi folks, My name is Anthony, and I'm from Glasgow, and I've just got into keeping fish since I've moved into my new flat. i've not had my setup long, and I'm already changing things. Starting out with an aquaflow 50 filter, I felt it was too small, so I'm currently running in an aquafow 100. I...
