Oh wow. Okay I'll need to change mine ASAP. My instruction booklet did not mention anything about replacing the solution.

Thanks for the quick response. That was for the tank water. I will need to test what you have mentioned. My drop checker is probably about 4 years old. I'll replace the solution and will report back with any results.

I also recall seeing the shrimp cleaning the snail's shell a few weeks ago. I'm starting to think it wasn't cleaning but maybe consuming calcium?

I brought my neon to his new home yesterday. The transition went really well and the new owner said he was excited to join the school of cardinals. So happy to hear that! Next step is to change the chemistry of this snail and shrimp tank. I'll buy a test kit this week.

    Ghost shrimp or RCS tank

That's a pretty good deal! I don't have RCS anymore. I had a hitchiker in one of my plants and he ate all of the RCS. That was one hungry killifish! The good news at the time was he ate all of my pest pond snails too!

    Ghost shrimp or RCS tank

I would be careful with RCS. They breed like crazy. I started out with one male and two female in a 6 g. My tank got infested with them and had to get rid of a lot. In my opinion I would get 3 or 4 ghost shrimp.

Hey everyone. I think I may have found a new home for my lonely neon tetra, Zip. The owner has a 65g aquascaped tank, communal fish only with a 1yr old grouping of about 30 cardinal (neon) tetras, corys, rainbow fish and roseline sharks. Will my neon be okay with a school of cardinals in this tank?

Thanks! I'll test this weekend when I get a chance. My first priority is to find a new home for Zip. I am getting a lot of responses to my ad.

A lot of people cannot digest dairy. Think about it, milk is meant to feed growing calves, not humans. You would be surprised to hear that there have been tons of studies done on milk, especially the protein in milk (casein), and how it is linked to cancer. Scientists were able to turn cancer...

I did use Flourish in the past but stopped using it. I didn't realize it goes bad so I'll be throwing that bottle out. So will this be enough to slow down the shell deterioration and/or maybe prevent it from deteriorating?

That's a lot of info. Thanks. The challenge I have is trying to find that balance for all inhabitants. Having a 6 gallon nano tank does not help either. I'm scared to try anything at this point and I think I will wait until I find a new home for my neon. I've been getting a ton of responses from...

Some people take action and some people nod and then look the other way. We all have the freedom to choose what we want to do with our lives and I chose to defend those who cannot speak for themselves. Yeah, I guess it was unnecessary to post the other ad but I just wanted to point out how...

I have read algae wafers have calcium in it, along with spinich or any dark green leaves. I do have algae wafers but stopped dropping it into my tank as I thought it was not necessary. I will try this as soon as I get home.

what do you use to cover your filter intake so your shrimps don't get sucked up?!

Research 'Fluval Edge pre filter sponge'. Fluval actually makes this sponge but there are cheaper versions out there that do just as well as Fluval's.

FYI, I have placed an ad for my neon tetra, Zip. Looking for a good home for him: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-fish/winnipeg/free-one-3-5-year-old-neon-tetra-for-responsible-fish-owner/1220606156?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true Also, saw the neighboring ad. I do have a regulator and drop checker. Actually, I make sure my drop checker is green with a bit of blue and not completely green. The only fert I use are root tabs. I understand CO2 is not required but my plants, especially my red melon sword suffer without it. I care more for the snail...

Yeah, nature is brutal, but it's also natural. I think you're missing my point though. Take a look at the link below: http://www.peta.org/issues/companion-animal-issues/companion-animals-factsheets/fish-tanks-thanks/ We don't have to breed fish! I'm happy your fish are healthy, fed, and safe...

Thanks. I'll look into calcium supplements and how it affects the balance of the aquarium. I need to be sure whatever I do will be okay for the shrimp and neon tetra. And just to add, yes, I do believe we should not own any pets. Cats and dogs have been domesticated over hundreds of years so...

Lol. It's all good but I'm glad I'm making people think about this. I'm not calling anyone stupid but I do believe we do not have the right to take creatures out of their environment for our own selfish pleasures and I definitely know breeding them for this purpose is just as wrong. I admit...

I think my statement was fair. I know many people with fish tanks (ages range from 6 years old to 40+ years old) and all of them have told me stories of sick fish, missed water changes, neglected feeding, etc. etc. I know it's a small sample size but I have also browsed through many forums and...

Yes, it's nature as the one is claiming its territory, however, the other neon tetras did not have many places to escape to and saw them slamming into the glass, or find a spot in the tank only to be found by the bully again and be chased. The others got stressed out or sick and some died of old...

    Sick Neon Tetra

Sadly, after three treatments over the span of three weeks I euthanized my neon last night using clove oil.    I just want to note that Hikari Metro+ plus is a very weak product.   As mentioned, the first treatment for my 6 gallon tank with the recommended dosage of a bit more than half a cap...
