Also, I feed him with tongs so I'm not worried about a faster fish grabbing his food

    Considering adding a fish

I would love to and am planning on doing so when I can get a bigger tank, but it will probably be a few years. I don't know that another rope would be comfortable.

    Considering adding a fish

The rope fish is currently around 8-10 inches and they grow rather slowly. I have had some smaller platies with him before and he tried to eat them, so it would have to be something a little larger than a platy or danio

    Considering adding a fish

I currently have a well established 55gal stocked with the following: 1 ropefish/reedfish 3 bronze cories 3 sterbai cories 1 pearl gourami 1 gold gourami 1 upside down catfish I was wondering if I could safely add another fish species, preferably something colorful and active to liven up the...

    Ropefish Will Not Eat!

I have had my ropefish for over a year now and he only will eat live worms. consider getting a box and media to raise red wigglers in from a bait store, they will reproduce and highly reduce your cost of food. Plus you know they are being kept and fed in a pesticide free environment

    Carpet Plant Help

I am going to take most of it out, but I still want it to carpet. I will try the grid thing. Wouldn't glue kill the plant?

    Carpet Plant Help

I purchased some dwarf baby tears for my tank as a carpeting plant, but it has now taken over the top of my tank. It is all floating and I can't get it to stay in the substrate. It is clogging the filter and it is in an active tank so I can't drain it and plant it that way. It is in a 55 gallon...

    Pond Snail Conundrum

I have recently noticed a few pond snails in my tank along with some ramshorn snails and trumpet snails. I have had terrible trouble with pond snails in the past and would really like to get rid of them before they become a problem. However, I don't want any harm to come to my trumpet snails...

    Fish Filter Tube Broken!

Right now I have a piece of mesh rubber banded around the end. I am going to have to look around to see if I can find the part. It's an old filter and I don't know if they make them any more

    Fish Filter Tube Broken!

The bottom of my fish filter intake tube, the part with the little slits in it that keeps big things out of the tube got lost while I was moving. Does anyone know of something else I can put over the bottom of the tube?

Featherfin Catfish And Upside Down Catfish Compatability

Alright. Thanks for the information. I really love my S. nigriventis and don't want him getting hurt so I guess I will have to see if the LFS will take him. I actually got him as an unplanned purchase because they had put it in with some more aggressive syno species at Walmart and they had...

    Mbuna- All Male Or Mixed?

I am setting up a 55 gallon mbuna tank and I am very curious as to whether it would be better to try for an all-male tank or to go with the conventional method. There are some key points I would like to point out to keep in mind.    1. I live in a rural area and the closest (good) LFS is a hour...

Should I keep my current fish in the 55 gallon during the cycle?

    Upgrading To A Larger Tank

I was hoping to get the cichlids about a week later. Would this cycle be safe on my pleco and catfish or would I have to keep them in their old tank? I am also going to be adding around a dozen live plants that work well in cichlid tanks (java ferns, Anubias, amazon swords) and I have read...

Featherfin Catfish And Upside Down Catfish Compatability

Thank you. I am going to be ordering a 15 pack of cichlid stones and will have many plants and possibly some other decor/hiding places. I can't wait to get this tank set up!

Featherfin Catfish And Upside Down Catfish Compatability

Would I be able to keep featherfin catfish (S. eupterus) and upside down catfish (S. nigriventis) together in a 55 gallon mbuna cichlid tank?

    Upgrading To A Larger Tank

I am going to be moving my pleco and upside down catfish from a 10 gallon to a 55 gallon tank in a few weeks and I am concerned that moving the old filter over to the new tank will not provide enough bacteria to cycle the tank. Should I do any additional cycling? If so what would be the best way...
