Thanks everyone! Thankfully I have a local shop that specialises in aquascaping and they stock pretty much every aquatic plant on earth (their claim not mine! lol) so I'll ask about those plants there.   Not sure about wattage as the tank is stored at my dad's atm. I'll post when I pick it up.

I am totally new to planted tanks so be kind!   I have a couple of other tanks which I fishless cycled without a problem but now I'm looking at starting my first planted tank I'm finding a lot of conflicting advice. To cycle or not to cycle? And if I do go with the fishless cycle, at what point...

I've found a fish specialist shop near me now that is really good so I think I'll go back there when the tank is ready. Good selection of fish and they actually care about overstocking, water parameters etc

Thanks Ch4rlie! Yeah I keep two coldwater tanks already this is just my first tropical tank.   I did pop into my local Pets at Home this morning but it scared me! All the fish had dropsy like you wouldn't believe!   I like platys and mollies mainly but I worry about the amount of fry I could end...

I have just acquired a 40g tank, haven't started cycling or planting yet but as I've not had a tropical tank before I want to do some research in advance.   I will be having 6 platys from a friend but I'm not really sure what else I could put in with them. I probably need to stick to hardier...

Hi! :)   I'm Soph.   I currently have one goldfish in a 20g tank (needs upgrading soon as he's still growing!) and I care for two goldfish at the school I work in.   I've never had a tropical tank before but I've just acquired a 40g tank (not started up yet) so I'm looking for plenty of advice...
