What Happened To The Pin On Different Species For Nano Tanks?

I'm sure once the discussion thread takes off, plenty of people will chip in with suggestions - from the classics to the weird and wonderful!

Oops - not sure what I did with the quote function before, but this is what I meant to quote!

What Happened To The Pin On Different Species For Nano Tanks?

I like that idea a lot  a thread which makes suggestions for the common small aquarium sizes (maybe 5, 7.5, 10, 15 and 20?) would be a really helpful resource.  I know it's possible to keep some fish in smaller setups than this (Shelster posted an interesting article on betta space...

That was really interesting - thanks for sharing.   Off topic, but is that a honey gourami in your profile pic, Shelster?

    Dwarf Cichlids And Friends :)

Fortunately impulse buying is out of the question as we don't even have the tank yet! :) We're planning to go with a notebook and pen to record all our new (probably hare brained) ideas...   Off topic but what's parking like at Pier?  This will be our first visit.

    Dwarf Cichlids And Friends :)

Hooray, we have a draft stocking list!    I know plecos are reclusive...but I always wanted one!  Also OH seems to think they're a compulsary part of a community tank, despite me explaining many times over that most of them won't clean up the algae for us.    We're off to Pier Aquatics next...

    Dwarf Cichlids And Friends :)

Hi all - thanks for the input, I appreciate it :) yeah, we're definitely going with the dwarf cichlids.  I'd love to do a wet pet tank one day and have an Oscar again, or maybe do a Sev and some Geos, but sadly I'd need a bigger house!  (Or I'd have to rip out my kitchen, which I'm not keen on...

What Happened To The Pin On Different Species For Nano Tanks?

Would it be worth a few of us attempting a "second draft" at the list?  I'm a new member but have lurked for a while and found it very helpful - not as a gospel guide to nano tanks, more as a jumping off point for research.  It was a good resource, shame to lose it.

    Dwarf Cichlids And Friends :)

Hi Wills, thank you for all the info and suggestions, that's so helpful!   We're almost definitely going to go with laetacaras rather than rams or apistos; I've got a real soft spot for them, I think they look really beautiful and natural.  I've seen curviceps in my LFS but not dorsiger; I'm...

    Dwarf Cichlids And Friends :)

Hello cichlid fans,   I made a fairly general "help me compile a stocking list" thread over in the Tropical Discussion forums a few days ago; to summarise, I like characterful individual fish while the OH wants a fairly traditional community.  We're looking at getting a Trigon 190 for the living...

Stocking - Please Help, I Feel Lost!

Hi Raticaticus - thank you for the suggestions!   The reason we're thinking of a Trigon is because we don't have a stretch of wall big enough for a rectangular tank of equivalent volume; it has to either be a corner unit or a cubic style tank like a Lido.  Unfortunately our living room is...

Stocking - Please Help, I Feel Lost!

Thank you for the reply, and the link! :D Sorry, I probably wasn't clear, I wasn't intending on putting an Oscar in this tank, I know it's too small - I had one years ago, but wasn't considering one for this setup.  Thank you anyway though :) I was considering stocking around a dwarf cichlid...

Stocking - Please Help, I Feel Lost!

Hi all,   The OH and I are 99% decided on a Juwel Trigon 190 for our living room, but that's about the only thing we've agreed on!    We've been talking about stocking options as we want to decide on this before we buy the aquarium.  Unfortunately we both want different things from the tank, so...

    Does This Tank Exist?

No, we hadn't - but I raised it with OH and he wasn't keen, sadly.  (I think they're awesome.)  Looks like we can get a decent sized tank in the space we've cleared though - probably a Trigon 190, which I'm excited about!

    129G Planted Oddball Tank

Oh wow :) I just clicked into this out of curiosity, and I've read all the way through. I love this setup; the wood is beautiful, and the caves look fab.  Can't wait to see it inhabited.

Juwel Tanks - Lido 200 Or Trigon 190?

no worries id definitely go for the trigon if it was me then - put some taller plants along the back maybe vallis or something and a nice big piece of bog wood as a centrepiece     Sounds good!  I've never done planted before so it's going to be an exciting project :)

Juwel Tanks - Lido 200 Or Trigon 190?

Seven tanks?  Nice :)         It would be on the opposite side of the room to the window, so hopefully any light reflections wouldn't be too bad - then again there's also reading lamps and the TV to consider.  Hmm.

Juwel Tanks - Lido 200 Or Trigon 190?

OK, one vote for the Trigon - thanks!    Don't suppose you know what they're like to clean, do you?  Seems like it might be more fiddly than a cubic or rectangular tank :/

Juwel Tanks - Lido 200 Or Trigon 190?

Hello,   After a fair amount of discussion and some furniture removal, my partner and I have created a corner space for our future fish tank, and we're considering the above two models.  I appreciate that neither will give us quite as many stocking options as a conventional rectangular tank of...

    Does This Tank Exist?

don't think they'd want to sit on our floor, it's wooden! Yeah, we're definitely going to go as big as possible - partly to maximise stocking options, but as you say, easier to maintain water quality too.  And in the spirit of doing things properly the first time round, looks like we have no...

    Does This Tank Exist?

Hmm, not what we want!   OH just did some furniture removal, and we've actually figured that if we move a chair upstairs to the spare room, there is space for a corner tank in the living room  there's only two of us, we don't need a sofa AND two chairs, right?  I mean, fish are much more...

I think it should be OK, the cupboard is only small and only runs half the length of the counter, so we can get in from the side.     Thank you for raising those points!  Definitely things to think about... Does This Tank Exist?

Hi all,   My partner and I want to set up an aquarium on an unused stretch of kitchen counter.  The space is 1 metre long by 60cm deep, but there's a cupboard 45cm above it, so once we factor in a hood and light we're going to struggle to get in a tank much taller than 30cm.  We want the biggest...
