Just checking on the tank today and found that there is something on the wooden log in the tank:         Not really sure what it is, only recent changes are the addition of 2 new angel fish and another small parrot cichlid.       Thanks :) 

Unfortunately the fish was dead as of the morning. A little annoyed that I couldn't solve the problem, the way in which it all came about was a surprise in itself. Now I unfortunately have a very empty / less lively tank..    I'll continue to monitor my other fish over the next few days to week...
