New Filter. Oxygen Problems? Dying Livestock

I did place carbon in the filter overnight. When I woke up and turned on the lights, the water was much clearer and all the fish greeted me like usual, including the puffer. I fed them, and everyone ate except the puffer. When I got home from school, everyone and the puffer ate and there is no...

New Filter. Oxygen Problems? Dying Livestock

I just checked it. There are some particles, but not enough to account for the level of cloudiness. If this were bacteria, would it be harmful to my fish? They're still gasping and my puffer swims weakly. I'm very worried about the puffer. I love her I got the old filter to work again, which...

New Filter. Oxygen Problems? Dying Livestock

Update: my puffer swam across the tank!! She didn't take any plankton, which is her favorite food, but she did swim up to my face like she normally does. She stuck herself back in her sleeping spot after a couple of minutes. I'm very happy.

New Filter. Oxygen Problems? Dying Livestock

Ok. Old filter, (the salt creep is bad. We got the entire system except livestock from a previous owner.) New filter and the media in question. My puffer, zoanthids and some of the other fishes. These wouldn't fit in the other post...and here's a picture of them healthy for reference.   (the...

New Filter. Oxygen Problems? Dying Livestock

I'm not sure what the media is called. Small white clay looking tubes. I want to assume that it was an oxygen problem, because there was very little surface disturbance and my zoanthids and Duncan coral look perfectly fine. My royal gamma has fully recovered, and is hiding around my liverocks...

New Filter. Oxygen Problems? Dying Livestock

I'm not sure if I should move her to a QT or not..I feel like moving her at this point would just stress her more. Ammonia is still at 0

New Filter. Oxygen Problems? Dying Livestock

The fish are calming down now. The poor puffer still looks awful...I really hope she makes it. My royal gramma also looks rough, but I'm guessing he'll be ok. I believe my Duncan coral is a goner. The zoanthids look normal though. Is there anything else I can do for the fish? I added more stress...

New Filter. Oxygen Problems? Dying Livestock

I do at the moment, because I put in a different overhang with no media in it at the moment. The old filter won't start.

New Filter. Oxygen Problems? Dying Livestock

I had an over hanging filter for my 55g tank, but it was pretty loud so my dad bought a fluval. I asked him to grab a powerhead too, but he used to raise freshwater fish and therefore disliked them and didn't buy one. I set up the fluval-rinsed it all well-and started it. I noticed that it was...

Setting Up My First Saltwater Tank

What types of fish aren't compatible with the valentini? I know that she'll nip at long fins, munch on shrimps/corals and fight with other puffers. So far she and the clown are getting along swimmingly (ha). Nitrates are currently at 10 mg/l.

Setting Up My First Saltwater Tank

Yesterday afternoon all levels were fine, so I acclimated the clown and he's doing well. (It's hard to take pictures of him because he never sits still.) My dad, of course, surprised me by bringing home a little puffer, which worried me but now he's in the tank and doing fine (and adorable.)  ...

    10 Gallon Tank Project

Make sure that your filtration system isn't too terribly turbulent. Bettas are naturally swamp fish who like calm, almost stagnant water; which is part of why they can live in little cups at the store. I used to breed them.

Setting Up My First Saltwater Tank

Today, after much internet research and conversations with seasoned hobbyists, I picked up my first saltwater aquarium.   It's a 55g with established live rock and sand. We brought home 30g of established water and I mixed a bunch of fresh. It came with an adorable little true percula clownfish...

    Asking For Advice :)

I'm getting a 55g tank, stand, live rock, live sand, hang on filters, lights, "plenty of food," salt mix, testing supplies and an adult clown (not sure on the species) off of Craigslist this weekend. I was wondering about tank cycling-if I'm getting a used tank with an established ecosystem...

    New To The Forum

Hello! I'm new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself.   I've had freshwater tanks my entire life and am starting a saltwater system soon. My dad's always wanted a saltwater system and I have the know-how and ambition, so we're shopping. Our tank is going to be no smaller than 55 gallons...
