    Angelfish Eggs Are Imminent

Is she still holding the eggs?   Do you think there would be a health limit on how long they can hold them - more thinking will the eggs be reabsorbed / delivered infertile than harm to the fish...

    Angelfish Eggs Are Imminent

In the past I've sometimes found a larger than average water change can bring on the egg laying.   I normally do about 20% per week, but I did a 50% change and 24 hours later I had eggs!   I'd be interested if you did separate the eggs to see how you get on with them, I've only tried this once...

    Feeding Issue?

I've seen it quite a lot with other juvenile cichlids, Angels, Sajica, Acara they take a little time to adapt to new food types. I tend to use granules and at first they would bite them and spit them out, they quickly learnt to not do this...

    Possible 'contaminant' In Tank

Think about what he would eat in the wild, scraps of vegetation, bits of dead animals, just about anything that goes past them basically, a slightly dry piece of fish flake won't cause any problems at all.

Think I Have Ruined A Good Tank

Hi there, you want to try and wash as much of the bleach off as possible, then allow it to dry out completely. Leaving the lid off over night should be fine. I'd then give it another rinse to be sure.   A little bit of patience should be all you need.

    Plecos From Warm To Coldish..

Reminds me of an article I saw on planet catfish  while back about people using plecos to keep algae down in unused swimming pools in the florida area. The fish seemed healthy enough and I think the only bones of contention were about the risk of them escaping into the local environment.

    It's War In Angelfish Land

My last pair of Angels were exactly the same, my pride and joy centre piece fish, but whenever mating the bickering got pretty intense! This eventually wore one of them down to the point he/she died.   I've still got the survivor who is otherwise pretty placid but I'm not going to try and pair...

    Smokey Blushing Angels

After my last spawn I bought a little breeding net to hang on the side, thought I'd try and raise some from the next batch, wouldn't you know they never did again!

    Smokey Blushing Angels

They look beautiful!   If you get fry, whats your plans for raising them, or are you going to let nature take its course in the tank?

    Angel Advice Pls

Think I'll live with the single one for now. I've seen it several times in the past when I've tried to introduce angels, always seems to start fine until you wake up one day to a shivering wreck of a juvie...   I'm moving house later this year and moving to a much larger tank, I might swap the...

    Angel Advice Pls

Has anyone got any tips on how to re-introduce a fish to partner a mature male Angel. I have a similar situation to above a previous successful breeding pair, unfortunately one of the fish died some time ago.   Previous experience tells me that trying to introduce a single juvenile fish has...

Can I Put Goldfish Tap Safe In A Tropical Tank?

It will be the same thing, it would be the same chlorines in the water that would irritate Goldfish as tropical fish

    Ever Lost Interest?

+1 for a rescape, or any significant change you can make. Maybe move the tank somewhere new, anything to take a proactive interest.   I find Guilt a huge demotivator in anything I'm doing. Stop feeling guilty and take little baby steps to proper routines again. If the thought of a full vacuum in...

How Many Dwarf Puffers In 120L ?

If you built some rock structures (piles) up in the tank with maybe some long pieces of drift wood angled up into the tank, you would create many more hiding spaces for the puffers. I don't think the puffers would be keen floating round in the open areas without cover to dart in to. My...

    Paradise Fish?

Are these ok for tropical, I always had it in my head these were cold water fish. Not sure where I got that from apart from seeing them in my LFS in the cold water section though.

    Red Fin Shark?

I mean the Red fin shark... I'd have thought there would be just about enough room for a DG. If you're (OP) looking for ideas to put in there, maybe some of the smaller Cory species would be nice, they are pretty active around the bottom of your tank.

    Red Fin Shark?

Sorry, don't think you've enough room in there for one, they are pretty active swimmers and would run out of space pretty quickly in a 10G.

    Ghost Website

I've seen this a few times on different forums, for wildly different subjects.   There is usually a big boom in users, sharing ideas and swapping experiences. Then an accepted method becomes settled on and variations become unwelcome, eventually new users feel like their interactions make no...

    Upgrading Filter

Could you take the opportunity to switch to an external filter. I held off doing it for a long time, but now feel the filtration is better, quieter and less visible in my tank.   Other than that when you switch over, if you put the whole old sponge into then new filter then you should be able to...

    Moving To Cichlids...?

I'd be tempted to check on compatibility further, but my initially I'd be checking on what the water is like in your area, as a general rule South American Cichlids like Soft water and Africans prefer Hard - this is very general and varies between regions but can be a good start.   If you like...

What Are Literally The Most Hardy Plants You Can Get?

I basically work on the same principle with plants, ones its harder to kill than keep alive.   I have Anubias, java fern and amazon swords in the tank and thriving. I trim dead leaves off maybe once a month but otherwise leave them to it. they are usually pretty lush and green.

    Catching Fast Fish

If you can remove as much hard scaping as you can whilst you are doing it, that can help....   Danio's are a nightmare, I had one in a tank for Months after his buddies had been moved on, just because I couldn't catch him. In the end, I drained water to about 1" before I got him!!!!

Can Angel Fish Go With Any Cichids

I believe the way African cichlids and New world Cichlids signal aggression/submission is very different and this would lead to potential conflict in establishing a hierarchy. Its tricky enough doing this with Cichlids anyway without adding layers of complication...

Can Anyone Name This Species Cichlid?

My first thought on looking was a Rotkeil Severum. but from looking at pictures of the Green, they look pretty similar. Are these the same strain with different names?   I might add I am no expert on this, I have got a Rotkeil, but am by no means widely read on Severums.

    My Tank Pic's

I'm not a great plant grower, my tanks have no special provision for plants apart from the lights on for 10 hours a day, but I've managed to keep Anubias, java Fern, Amazon swords and a few others alive.   I gave up on anything more 'interesting' as they tend to be more difficult. My LFS which...

Should I Get The 40 Gallon?

Angels would be fine with either. I'd say this was just big enough for them. With a tank that size you would probably be fine with a pair, but hard to guarantee they would be a pair at juvie stage.   I'd imagine you will find that territorially it is easier with the longer tank. Territories were...

Diluted Testing, But Will The Reverse Also Work?

With my limited chemistry knowledge... If you put half the amount of water in then it will still have the same concentration of ammonia because that's what you are measuring ie parts per million. Mixing more of the indicator solution will only give a false reading, or if it shows the same as...

    White Aquarium Sand

I've used 'Sharp' sand in the past. I got it from the DIY store for about £3.00 a bag. I only needed one for my 40g, but its so cheap it doesn't really matter. Its a very pale fine sand, make sure you wash it extra well before it goes in, and at water changes it can still swirl if you're not...
