Going to test the water tomorrow, got some mature media from a friend today so see how it goes, its a 60l tank.(Although i have a 250 litre, but going to try this small one first) Im from Wrexham.

Have spoke to my mate and he is now reluctant to let me have some of his mature media, so i guess im down the fishless option of cycling unless i can find somewhere to get some mature media , iv got the ammonia, and test kit, but as a complete novice im not confident at all, would of preferred...

and how many fish do you think i could eventually keep in my tank, obviously adding 1 or two at a time.

i just want some active colorful fish, that wont fight with each other :)

Ah ok, i was just told by a friend to use danio's, didnt reliase my tank was too small for them, any community fish you can recommend? And how many fish my tank could hold?

So if i put the filter in, run it for a day, and put a couple zebra danio's in the fish should be ok?

Yeah iv ordered myself a new digital thermometer off Amazon, should be here soon, back to the cycling though, so i just use the water direct from his filter sponge and put it straight into my tank and leave it run for another day or two?

my tank is a 60l his is a120l.

Thanks, as a beginner i just want to make sure i have a good enviroment for the fish, my friend has a tropical tank, could i use the sponge from his filter to transfer the 'good' bacteria to my tank?

There was nothing about this in the instructions, which is exactly why i came to this forum, thanks, i have read about cycling and this will be my next step, on first read it seemed a bit complicated but ill go over it again more throughly and give it a go.
